Re: NEW lsx swap header's
You say these are 1 3/4 with 3" collectors? How come Hawks doesn't advertise this size on their site?
Re: NEW lsx swap header's
HEy guys just wanted to post up and let you know we do still off these headers in a 1 5/8 primary and a 3in collector, most guys that have a cam only, heads cam comdo or even a small cube stroker will do fine with these headers as long as we are below a 6800 RPM red line/shift point. We also off the 1 3/4 primary as well for a little more money and may be coming out with a 2in primary in the future
also we will be working on y pipe for the 3in collector with our new tranny cross members we offer on our website which also help you the customer for more clearance with a self built y pipe. Keep a check on the site and let us know if we can help further also both headers work fine with a auto trans.
Thanks,Bruce

Hi,
Do you mean your Y pipe is scrapping or your header collector I have never seen a LS swap car scrape the collector, let me know if I can help.
Thanks,Bruce

CRAMOS78 did you really have to put salt in the wound? That is how the hawks headers SHOULD sit!

Re: NEW lsx swap header's
wow the ls1 headers that I made for my car do not sit that low at all, in fact they are barely lower than the oil pan, just in case I came down on them hard from a wheelie. Now I'm making a bigger set, they're for sale if anyone is interested
Re: NEW lsx swap header's
Hi Guys, the LS1 swap headers we originally did where worked around the Spohn cross member which did not offer very much ground clearance, which is the reason why we never did a 3in y pipe so when we did the SBC header we worked the header collector and y pipe around a STOCK crossmember so therefore the header and y pipe was able to stay up more than on the LS header. BUT as you can see by the pics above on the SBC header WITH the SPOHN cross member there is NO PLACE to run the y pipe it does have more header collector clearance but NO PLACE TO RUN THE Y PIPE.
Fast forward to last year and HAWKS came out with NEW T56 and 4L60E cross members that give MUCH MORE ROOM for the y pipe and we will eventually have 3in y pipes for the 3in collector headers, we have several cars at the shop that have 2.5in and 3in y pipes with the NEW cross members that have great ground clearance, now if you have a car that is slammed on the ground with long tubes and a y pipe you have to be willing to give a little somewhere, let me know what we need to change and I will try to work with you all the best I can.
Also if anyone is doing a swap call the office and I will give you a list of parts conversion and suspension that will give you the most ground clearance so you dont get in the middle of a swap and two things will not work great with each other.
We are also working on a 2in primary 3in collector ,3in y pipe into a 3.5 exhaust single inlet/outlet complete exhaust system with all vbands for easy install and removal of the y pipe and exhaust system ( this will only be sold as a COMPLETE SYSTEM from header flange to muffler tip but quality will be TOP notch
Below are some pics of our 1 5/8 headers with 3in collector and y pipe and a 4in magnaflow exhaust on a stock hieght 89 IROC LS1 4L60E swap.

Re: NEW lsx swap header's
^^^ Thanks for the input and info.
I would love to get the clearance similar to the vehicle posted above. i'm not too sure what you mean by "stock height" because swapped LSX car’s w/lighter engines, are raised by 1-1.5 inches with stock springs . In order to reach factory “stock height” you have to lower your car w/ the Eibach pro-kit or something equivalent. To achieve a more aggressive “sports stance” you need to go with the Eibach Sportlines or equivalent which lowers the car 2.25 inches. I went this route and its become a nuisance to drive with my SSW long tube headers w/3 inch collectors.
Can you post pictures of the above vehicle’s stock height?

I've had my single 3" exhaust with my TPI 350 scrape way too often... I can't imagine having those long tubes sit that low on my car.
Re: NEW lsx swap header's
Hi,,
I will try to get you guys some more pics later, we do offer the new cross member for extra y pipe clearence is in stock ready to ship, but what alot of guys dont understand is there are so many options for suspension choices, exhaust choices, and trans cross members it is hard or next to impossible to get a y pipe that fits most cars, then when you do come out with a y pipe that fits most you get someone that gets one that has pieces already on there car that the y pipe was not designed around then they get on public forum and trash the new product then all the customers that are thinking of the new product are scared of it and dont purchase, so we have been hesitant to come out with the new 3in y pipe because of the above reasons, I would kindly ask the customers doing the swap to understand every car and every swap is slightly different keep and open mind and understand some things sometimes need to slightly be modified or changed for all of the aftermarket parts to coinside together, if any of the people on the board are looking to start a swap and have not gotten anything yet feel free to call and I can give you a list of things that all work best together as we have done 30-40 Ls/3rd gen swaps in the past so we have about tried it all. Again thank you everyone for your continued support and if you have any questions dont forget to call or email the shop.
Thank you ,

Re: NEW lsx swap header's
I realize that you can't make everybody happy, but at least to me, I'd rather deal with y-pipe issues instead of header issues. Getting the headers up where they belong might make it more challenging to fab up a y-pipe. A y-pipe is something that can be done affordably by a local exhaust shop. Headers... not so much. Headers are what we really need to have available as a bolt-in.
On that note, maybe stick with the long tubes you've got already, but come out with a mid-length set of headers that dumps up higher. And as long as I'm reading off my wish list here, maybe offer a more affordable set in steel? A lot of us want to coat the headers anyway, so not having to pay a premium for stainless would be nice.
By the way, are you planning to go to Carlisle this year? I've missed you the last few.

Re: NEW lsx swap header's
Part of the reason i'm shying away from an ls swap is because of the lack of options on headers. stock f-bod manifolds or $800 longtubes, nothing in the middle.

Re: NEW lsx swap header's
Hey Guys, here are a few pics of the latest LS swap header/y-pipe combo. The y-pipe is a 3" y-pipe with our 3" collector LS swap headers. The crossmember is our maximum ground clearance crossmember... see attached pics.

Re: NEW lsx swap header's
That setup looks tons better than your previous y-pipe. I presume that is your original version of headers.
If you do end up selling a set of more tucked up headers for those of us that can and will fab our own y-pipe, will you accept an unused parts return for them?

Re: NEW lsx swap header's
this is actually the later polished headers on this car that FITS GREAT BTW and a custom in house built y pipe, the y pipe we will come out with in the spring will be for the polished header only and we are also coming out with a BIG PIPE SYSTEM later in the year I will post more when I have it.
