90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )
Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )

Not sure either, but Im scoping out a pair of TD05's for my next venture. 8psi is nothing to laugh at, Im at 5psi and it really sets you back in your seat
To vulcan, Id recommend a bigger FMIC, those small ones are dwarfed by the massive space 3rd gens have up front. You've got a very air hungry V8, those are best suited for smaller 4cyl cars
Ive got 1AAuto carpet in my 92 currently and dont have much to gripe about. Held up pretty good over the years without much fading. WAY WAY WAY lighter than stock (like 80lbs vs 12lbs)

Wow, I might have to remember that if I ever decide to go over my car trying to save weight.

Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )
picked up the motor tonight.... very good looking. wondering is the crank usable in a lm7 or ls1?? got truck accessories for sale.... lifter trays for sale.... rockers for sale....... block....... pistons...... truck oil pan..... front and rear cover. valey cover.
Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )
5.3/5.7/6.0 cranks are the same. OEM balances them differently for different applications. Some have ran them as-is in different combos without incedent, but a trip to the machine shop is recommended

Are you gonna paint the intake and valve covers or just leave them primer? Or is it grey paint?

What happened man? Why did you change your mind? I guess if you're serious about parting it out, PM me on some of the stuff you're selling. I might be interested, but I hate to see you abandon the project.

I'd much rather have a swapped 3rd gen than a 4th gen. It's just so much cooler. You'll regret not finishing it. So what if it takes you a while longer? Its not a race, just take it slow and do it right and you'll be happier in the end.

Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )
I've been on my project for a year and a half now, i'm about 90% percent done. There have been some frustrating times and there have been times where i've lost motivation as well, you just gotta stick with it! My car will still look like a dump for awhile because after I get this swap done i'll be saving for a house and getting married a year from now, but I plan to stay with it until I get this car 100% complete interior/exterior and all. Then the girlfriend and I will be getting a 4th gen, she's been wanting one for awhile now! Just trying to help build some motivation here! You're doing a great job! Thread Starter

Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )
question: the 89 formula 350 i just replaced the fuel pump in her so it is brand new. can i hot wire the 350 tpi fuel pump to make it work for the ls1 demands? cause hawks makes a kit i was wondering is that prety much the same pump but just runs a hot wire to make the pump put out more by putting more volts to it?
so here is what all i need to get this thing on the road.
accessories
headers
gasket kit
head bolts
oil pan kit
throttle body
sensors
t56 tranny
tranny crossmember
clutch pedal
slave cylinder
drive shaft
rear lca's/panhard
ECM
wiring harness
rad hoses
and all the little odds and ends ( still a ways to go )

Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )
If you replaced it with a TPI pump then yes it has to come out. TPIs operate at 44psi, while LSx require 60psi. A TPI pump may get it running, but it wont last for long
Dont bother with hotwire kits. Ive griped enough about them
