You'll need an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to set the pressure.

The C5 filter/regulator works fine. It's permanent 58ish psi

Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )

after some deep thoughts and talking with my wife, the car is still a go for the ls1 treatment. now my plans are kinda in the air. i want the car to be my dream car so it is gonna be a t56,......... stock thirdgen tank with walbro 255 lph fuel pump. the motor is still in the air as to how i wanna build it. i was thinkin ls3 heads with a fast intake and tsunami cam from tsp. here is a vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XD2wmPnUB0 that is what i am lookin for. suspension i want this car sittin on top of its rims...... so not in a lowrider way more of a pro street kinda way. the brakes will have to stay stock for the mean time unless we sell the house and i come up with the funds to do work.clutch wise i want something strong. so nothing to weak. I may go with a 4l60e and nice stall. for the strip..... so idk. any body got a dash for 89 firebird lying around?

How's this. Assemble it with whatever you've got right now, stock or otherwise. Drive it, enjoy it for what it is and if the bug is still in you, mod it as a driver

Garage ornaments do little to encourage productivity

Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )

Honestly it sounds like your pretty much done with this build plus you got a lot more to go, body work, paint, interior, wiring, tranny, tunning, the list goes on. You would probably be happier if you found a nice 4th gen t/a and work from there since you haven't sunk to much money into the build that you couldn't make back. Probably at this point you just want something you could drive and have fun with, I know the feeling.

Are the LS1 coils from an fbody? i will take them so long as you have the brackets and everything. And as long as they are 99+

Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )

so while i was fluctuating my wife was mad at me for it......... she loves the firebirds and does not want me to get rid of them. so im gonna keep them there just wont be any radicle progress anytime soon lil stuff here and there. first thing on list is to get rear suspension done and get car roleable. get her on her own feet. so to speak. all i need it a cross member mounted torque arm from spohn and control arms panhard bar and transfer shocks and springs over. put fuel tank in car clean it paint it. replace pump. redue the fuel lines brakes lines, i need to put the brakes on the 4th gen rear end. do all that jazz and then move on from there.

Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )

Just remember that there's nothing wrong with walking away from it when you need to, but once you sell it, it's gone. We all get to those points where we get discouraged, especially if the build is going as slowly as yours and mine. Sometimes I just work on something else, something easy so that I can actually step back and see some progress once in a while. Polishing tail lights, or restoring a t-top bar, or something like that. Things that give you that warm and fuzzy that you actually did something. That way you can go back and work on the motor for another week with no visible progress and not feel so bad about it.

I expect you to get this running and post a video so that I can see my LQ9 crank in action.

Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )

so i am gonna start cleaning out my garage. gotta pull rearend outta the 89 formula. then pull the tank out and clean it put a new walbro 255 lph in it then run new lines to the engien bay. put the 4th gen rearend underneath her and bolt here all up. gonna get a spohn torque arm mounted to the crossmember for a 4l60e. then get new center link an then should be good to roll. put her on a trailer and get her back home them transfer all the parts over to the garage.

TRANSMISSION
I cant seem to make up my mind, one day ill want a t56 then the next the 4l60e. I like the idea of a 6speed just to get better gas milage. the auto would do better at track..... so idk any thoughts on this??

Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )

Your TBSS cam doesnt have a rear relouctor ring cast into the cam. It's designed into the timing gear so the sensor must be in the front cover. Switching cams will solve this

Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )

A 4L80E is massive compared to a 4L60E. The mount is several inches rearward of the '60, no pre-fabbed crossmemebers exist. You'd have to build your own

Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )

ah, ok that makes sense. so i figured out what i am gonna do, i am gonna buy a 93 formula i found for 2k with a rebuilt lt1 355, cam, ported heads, ported intake, throttle body, headers, turbo 350 tranny. So, i have a 89 firebird formula 350 car tha is just a shell for sale 100 gets it. clean title never been in a wreck. no suspension no rear end nothing. would have to be towed. dont no how but will ( by no means is this ready for the road will need sheet metal work)

Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )

You are way too indecisive. Not to mention this thread wouldn't even be 6 pages long if you would use the edit button. Most forums have rules against double or triple posting, I am surprised this one doesn't.

Believe me I know what it is like to be young and have no money and trying to do an LS1 swap, because I am in the exact same position as you. I am only 23. However I have never considered selling my car once, I put it on the back burner until I get motivated or get money. All we are saying is stick with it.

I was 22 and married when I did my swap. Believe me I know where you're coming from. The biggest thing is to stick with it once you start.

So i got the cars rearend sitting back on the ground finally! so here is a pic it is motivating. tommorow i will be gettin the front end back on the ground. the tie rod end is hitting the rim since i only got 1.5 spacers for the front which will not work out. but enjoy

Well said Nick...

I started my swap summer of 2010 with the purchase of the engine/tranny pullout. It was the first setback in the swaps progress due to the amount of project funds the low mileage (15k) unit I found cost me. Being married with no kids and 31 plus years older (54 now) doesn't automatically leave me completely free to spend as I want on my toy. A household budget says other things must also be attended to. The beginning of each calendar year costs me $thousands in property taxes, insurance, HOA dues, etc. I have over 50% of all the related swap stuff needed but due to other family crisis that have popped up all I have been able to do the last couple of months is occasionally dust off the engine/tranny and ponder project changes and improvements. Not seeing any physical progress does sometimes really grate on me but I don't feel that bad because due to increased time spent thinking I have made improvements to my project plan. You could say that no progress has almost been good.

My .02,
Mike
