Re: Not looking forward to the next step

You will DEF have to cut a rectangular hole... Thats the way they came in thirdgens...and in fourthgens for a reason. Like five7 said, the shifter base will be above the floor line slightly. If not..it'll be real close.

My Spohn, Drews, and custom trans crossmember puts it above the floor a little. Once the driveline is lined up, thats where she falls.

To get your hole precise, the best way I found...was to mount everything (engine and trans), then from below, using a screw driver or punch, mark the 4 corners of the shifter opening. Then from up top, cut your rectangle around those four marks you just made. You can always trim it bigger if need be to give things room to move and shift. Also the shifter base will be a bit bigger than the mounting point.

Thanks for the idea Jason...

57Kid, I may try out that summit boot. I have seen some with a chrome ring around the boot. I am thinking going "oldschool" console less.

It's the Hurst shifter that came with the 2000 SS.

After bolting the shifter in before starting it the other night, I was sitting in the seat like a little kid, practicing 1/4 mile runs. . .
