Headers -> Starter
My Hawks LT Headers are really close to the starter (stock '06 GTO LS2), they're about a 1/4" from the solenoid which has to be too close. I think the only reasonable solution is to get a mini-starter as I think it is still too close to just wrap it. Anyone have any other suggestions? I've read piles of LS swap threads and have never heard of anyone specifically having this problem, but maybe my memory just sucks.

Re: Headers -> Starter
Hmmmm... I'm running an LS2 starter and hawk's longtubes on mine and I don't remember the starter being that close, I'll check the next time I go up to the house.

Re: Headers -> Starter
The GTO starter solenoid is clocked differently than the LS1 car and LSx trucks
Swap to one of those if the GTO piece is giving you trouble

Non-GTO starters may not fit the GTO T56 bellhousing. I havent seen any pics to show one way or another

Re: Headers -> Starter
I tried an LS1 starter with my GTO transmission and it wouldn't work, I had to buy the LS2 starter.

Re: Headers -> Starter
yeah I've heard that only the LS2 starter works with the GTO trans/ bellhousing. I may just have to go ahead and grab the "adjustable" mini starter from Summit.

Re: Headers -> Starter
You can also wrap the starter in header wrap, that does a good job of protecting it. I've had to do that on several cars and never had a problem.

I'll definitely try that before I make any drastic moves with the 'ol checkbook

Re: Headers -> Starter
I was looking around the net and found this site, it's an s10 v8 conversion parts store. They sell a mini starter for $129, and it's clockable with 12 different mounting positions.
