Can anyone hook it up?
Im guessing i need a 94 - 97 f body housing, but what about the late 3rd gens with electronic speedo? will that work.. Im converting to newer instrument cluster so It will work with the vss.

if your 4L60E case uses 4 bolts to attach the tail housing, then you can use the pre-'96 versions. But if your 4L60E case is the 6-bolt versuion, you'll have to use the '96-'02 version. You can probably find one of those in the classified section of ls1tech.com

Any 3rd gen V6/V8 with an electric VSS and 700R4/4L60 tailhousing will work
Any LT1 body style 4th gen with the 4L60/4L60E
The electric VSS for both the 3rd gen gear driven and reluctor driven tailhousings use the same size and location VSS hole. You just use a 3rd/4th gen Fbody tailhousing to retain the torque arm mount holes. If your TA mounts to a crossmember, ANY 2WD 700R4/4L60/4L60E electric VSS tailhousing will work
Cable driven senders often use a much smaller hole. Sometimes these tailhousing also came in large sender versions which fit the newer electric VSS
If you use the 4L60E 40 tooth reluctor/VSS setup and hook it directly to your LT1 PCM you will not need a converter box. The output signal from the PCM will drive the stock electric speedo just fine. The VSS/reluctor combo can be removed from ANY 4L60E regardless of what its in. Vans and trucks are super common, esp with blown transmissions

Pocket seems to be unaware that it was during the '96 production run that the 2WD 4L60E cases first switched from the older 4-bolt to the newer 6-bolt for the tail housing. That's why his blanket statement is wrong and misleading and irresponsible. You must first check your 4L60E case to see which version it needs.

Re: 96 Lt1/4l60e into 88 camaro Cant find proper TAILSHAFT housing
I am aware of the change, it was not being fully implemented until years later. Being a 96-97 doesnt automatically throw it into the 6 bolt flange category. For the years, only 4.3L V6 trucks/vans and later 97 3.8L Fbodys got them. They are easy to spot because of the 360* removable bellhousing. His trans is from a B-body which still used the one piece case 4 bolt tailhousing until the body style changed back to FWD
Back to his original post, this housing will work

If you TA is being mounted to anywhere other than the tailhousing, then this one will also work

Take note of the VSS hole size differences with the various housings. This is what you have to watch out for when snooping through the older cars

Hey guys.
I've heard that the 4L60E goes right in using the stock crossmember, and I've heard that it doesn't.
Which is it?

it does, the only problem is which tailshaft housing you have, ull need a late 3g or 4th gen one for the torque arm to mount up

Re: 96 Lt1/4l60e into 88 camaro Cant find proper TAILSHAFT housing
I'm buying an entire 1997 wrecked Z28. The only thing it is missing is the steering column (and a little paint...he he). I am probably good to go, except for the wiring part of it all and the speedo box thing that turns the electric signal into a mechanical spinning of the speedo cable.
I read something about power steering lines too...I am assuming that maybe the LT1's power steering pump is different enough to require longer p/s lines.
