T56 crossmember that works with long tubes

What trans cross member, with torque arm relocation, will accommodate long tube headers? BMR?

Also, is there any different between torque arms from LT1 swaps vs. LS1 swaps? I assume they are all the same and I can look at any of these for my LSx project.

I don't think that will clear the exhaust on both sides. It needs to have a double hump.

It doesn't have a torque arm relocation either. I will break my trans if I leave it on the tailshaft.

Unfortunately there isn't an option like what you are looking for. You can either have the crossmember mounted tq arm or exhaust clearance. A couple have taken the Skulte/Hawks mount and welded a tq arm mount to it then recoated everything.

I wish there was something but I think if I get that far I will run a body mounted tq arm instead. Much better IMO

The Hawks crossmember has the double hump. But, as stated, it doesn't relocate the torque arm mount. Zone seems to be the only one who has done both.

Uhg. Another reason I can't believe I'm pulling apart an 11 second 4th gen to make my '89 run. That's what happens when you can't bring yourself to part with something.

Thanks for the info, guys.

Good job man, any plans on removing the TQ arm from the trans? Or are you not worried about it? The severe duty of my car at the track made me glad to jump on a tubular setup.

Re: T56 crossmember that works with long tubes

Thanks. I'm not quite finished a little grinding and some paint and it will look a lot better. At the moment only 2 1/4-20 bolts hold the mount up.

I had considered it but I just want to get the car roadworthy. If I find an aftermarket TA for cheap ill probably move the mount.

Re: T56 crossmember that works with long tubes

Ok cool, even with the stock TQ arm on my 86 TA, when i build the crossmember, i will be relocating the TQ arm from the trans, not only because it wont work for the TH400, i just dont like them tanking on my trans with a stall and cammed engine.

Looks like Spohn has one. I would imagine it works as they sell the LT's as well.

My Spohn unit did not allow exhaust to clear without banging the ground...EVERYWHERE.

Re: T56 crossmember that works with long tubes

I have the Spohn one with TA relocation aswell, and I can´t believe how they built/designed it...Did they think our LS/T56 swap cars don´t need exhaust at all or what? There is just no way to route the drivers side exhaust tube with decent clearance. I´m even starting to think about cutting out a half moon shape out of the fram rail to route the tube there. I´m trying to find oval DR Gas 2x4" exhaust tubing here in Europe, but as usual, no luck. That would help some at least.

I tried that, the clearance still sucked.

Spohn isn't the way to go for LS swap. And that goes for engine crossmember, too. The lack of good fit has been so well publicized that I can't believe he hasn't taken any corrective action. Hawks is blowing him away in that department.

Yes. It's what they say in the description, and what we're saying. It doesn't relocate the torque arm mount from the transmission, though.

I don't have any complaints with my Spohn k member. The cross member is a different story though.

If you modified it to attach the torque arm mount, it makes sense to beef it up a little in the process.

I have planned on making a brace from the front of the driver side "leg" to the part where the torque arm goes.
