New LS1 oil pan

Looks like Holley has a new oil pan coming out soon that could help us LS1 swappers get some more oil pan/k-member clearance. Unfortunately there is not pricing available yet. Looks like a pretty nice piece if the price is right.

Re: New LS1 oil pan

It wont clear the stock K-member

Fbody pans have 1/4-1/2" clearance for the front section back to the sump. This hangs significantly lower. It's also nearly 6" deep which means it will hang nearly a whole inch below the stock K-member level making it the lowest point on the car

http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/conver...-oil-pans.html

It's doubtful there will ever be a cheap aftermarket pan for 3rd gens because they are undesirable in the grand scheme of swap cars. GM's Fbody pan already fits so good and is available new for About $220. Hard to beat. The pan seems molded for 1st gen's to clear the steering linkage but reasonable for pretty much any car from the 60's-70's which are about 70% of all LSx swaps

Oh well, I tried. I haven't got my LS1 on my k-member yet, so I don't know exactly what the clearance looks like yet. I know you do though Pocket... you da man

Re: New LS1 oil pan

I agree that the F body pan will probably always be the best choice. I'm just curious why it won't clear the stock K member. Is the front deeper than 1 3/8"? Is that where it won't clear?

Re: New LS1 oil pan

The Fbody pan is so shallow up front, the windage tray has to be chopped back to the 2nd main cap. Most of the clearance is for the pickup tube. All the aftermarkets and this one most likely too have a full windage tray requiring more clearance up front i.e. deeper pan which is a no-go for out K-members

I dont have a good pic of the clearance from the front, but its similar to this. To put it in perspective, the brake line rubbed

Re: New LS1 oil pan

Mast motorsports is making a pan for LS swaps into 3rd gens. But for now the only solution is most definitely a LS1 camaro/bird pan.

The Mast piece is the only one that mentions 3rd gen f-bodies.

That Holley pan may be something to keep in mind for the LSx in the '57, though...

That pan looks like a real nice piece with some nice options to it. It will be interesting to see how much they want for it. Any idea when it's supposed to be available?
