Cruise Control
Cruise Control
I'm swapping an LS1 into a 1991 GTA. The engine is from a 2000 Firebird and I have the whole car so have most of the pieces. I think I have everything figured out except the cruise control. I havn't been able to really find anything on here so far. Can I keep the cruise from the 91 should I use the module from the 2000 or should I use somthing else? The guy I am doing this for wants to keep the original turn signal controls, cost of parts is not much of a concern just looking for the easiest and cleanest install.

The stock cruise unit can be reused if you figure out the cable. I like the new digital units better

I made my own bracket and used the same indent in the washer tank for a clean factory look. and since the CC harness is separate it was very easy to make a clean install

Re: Cruise Control
The signal stalks are almost identical between 4th gens and third gens. I think the plug end might be different...but the number of wires is the same. So you can either tap into the wires, or do what I did and cut the harness side of the plug off to wire to the new digital control. So it stays plug and play under the dash.
There arent too many complicated hook ups on the digital unit. Just needs some PCM inputs, and brake/clutch interrupt switches. And the control stalk.
I put mine down on the chassis rail next to the radiator...on the drivers side. If the donor car has traction control, you'll want to order the cable for the non-traction control car. I ordered both the throttle and cruise cable for a non-tc car, and it worked out perfect. The cruise cable is SUPER long. SO I routed it up behind the brake booster and have it coming around from the back. Its hard to even notice it.
I was actually going to mount my cruise unit UNDER the battery tray. But because of how I did my wiring, all plug and play, it worked out better to keep it up top.
Here is a pic of where it sits. Just used some long self tapping screws to hold it down.

Another..during the mod that killed my car haha...

And here's what you can see of the cable. Or cant see. It runs up the chassis rail, goes up behind the brake booster, along the firewall, then turns up towards the throttle body. And I have it tucked under my coil cover.

Re: Cruise Control
Hmmm...I think I listed them in my build threads somewhere...but here's what I found quickly. Ill try to go back through to verify.
LS1 throttle cable (98-99, without TCS) = 12565559
LS1 throttle cable (00-02, without TCS) = 12565560
LS1 cruise control cable (99-02, without TCS) = 12563627 <---this number is correct, but discontinued.
Those should be ok...and check out on the gm parts websites. Although...prices have gone up a LOT since I got mine.
As always, ide double check with a dealer that the part numbers are good before ordering online.
If I find a mistake, or different numbers, Ill post em.

Re: Cruise Control
Looks like that number was discontinued. If you go to newgmparts.com and follow this path for a 2000 Camaro (fuel system, cruise control, cable) it gives another cable...but no part number. You could call them to get the number or call the dealer.
Ive read that 12554668 is for a 98-99 without TCS...and its a good number. Supposedly works with aftermarket throttlebodies...which Im not sure why that would matter given the application. But in any case, thats another one to check out.
You'll probably be getting the parts from either newgmparts, gmpartsdirect, or maybe scoggy dicken...so I would just call em and tell them what you need. SD has ALWAYS had good customer service when Ive called them.
Sorry thats not much help. It was all available and CHEAP when I ordered. Found my receipt from newgmparts.com for my cables, and they were $15 for the throttle and $18 for the cruise haha.

Re: Cruise Control
you can use 99-02 units with the pcm, 98 and truck units are stand alone
Re: Cruise Control
I have the cruise control box off of a 99 Camaro with TCS to use. I can't figure out how to swap the cables out. After you take the black cover off, can you remove the cables?
