My turbo 4.8l 87 IROC build
well i got the chance to buy my old car back. i built this car back in like 04-05 and sold it for $5,500, bought it back a week ago not running but got it running for $700. absolutely love this car and drives soo much nicer then my 91. decided to go turbo 4.8l and hopefully t56. the plan is to completely shave the enigne bay clean and fill all holes and whatever. just picked up a 4.8l for $200 now to get the rest.
how it used to look:

Re: My 87 IROC build
already tearing it apart. man the coolant was as black as used oil and was hardly in any of the coolant lines. they ran a cheap little tranny cooler and there was no fluid goin through that. anyways heres some pics of the tear down process and the 4.8l i just got.

Sweet project. Your power goals should be easily met with that setup. Just remember that more power will only be a spring change away

Re: My turbo 4.8l 87 IROC build
400whp on a 4.8 is a walk in the park. Probably can do alittle less turbo...61-64mm could do those numbers but a T70 gives more room.
My buddy took a stock 4.8L bottom but with rod bolts, with ported heads/230 deg cam, LS2 intake I think, made 700whp on pump gas with meth injection with a single T88 turbo
But my oh my did that car get abused the last few years! glad to see you got it back. Nice looking ride.

Yeah just keep it simple it will make power. Push it up to a single fuel pump limit and be happy. That should be 550whp with a boost a pump kit.

She looked great when you sold her, so I am sure it will be great again. Must have hurt a little to see the abuse it took. That engine must have been leaking a lot of oil to absorb that much dirt.
Are you planning any upgrades for the 4.8 short block?
Looking forward to your turbo piping build up.

Re: My turbo 4.8l 87 IROC build
besides the motor parts ive been thinkin about what gauges to run. since the car has a mechanical speedo and i dont wanna spend the money for the conversion box, id rather get new gauges. i dont want the usual autometer ones and i also dont wanna spend a ton of money on them.
heres what it had (only pic i have of them):

i would love these (crazy exspensive):

found this set on ebay for about $260:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/260775156254...#ht_977wt_1110
but stumbled across these and kinda like them:
(in red)

or
(in white)

good thing if i get these in the red theyres a ebay boost gauge that almost looks the same.

Yeah ive used glowshift stuff too and had no issues. Those digital led ones have a good warranty and they are also the company that makes the 3rd gen digital dash.

You sold the black one with the 5.3? I would say your cazy, which you are, but I like this build even more. Plus, its with your old INTIMIDATOR Z, which makes your name make more sence.

i've had several deals like this. do a CRAP ton of work on someone's car and get rights to drive it when you want/need to. for a time there, i was driving borrowed cars that i had built while the engine was blown up in my own car. this was back when i was daily driving the camaro.
