5.3L w/ Aluminum block? Which vehicle?

Which cars came with the all aluminum 5.3L? And what is the RPO code for these?

I found an 04 trailblazer EXT with the 5.3L and I'm just wanting to verify that it is the one I'm wanting. Whats the horsepower on these compared to the iron block truck 5.3's?

And one other question, does the 2004 models have the 24x reluctor wheel so I can use an LS1 f-body computer?

Thanks,

Mike

Re: 5.3L w/ Aluminum block? Which vehicle?

Various models had it, mostly top tier 4x4 trucks

Came with flat top 4.8 pistons and 243 heads, so its a little more spunky than common LM7's

Came with several codes, most were LM4. Easiest way to find out is to just look

All 99-06 engines were 24x. Fast way to check is look at the crank sensor. black sensor body is 24x, gray is 58x

The 07 envoys and trailblazers also had the alluminum 5.3 with the 24x reluctor. Those were gen IV 5.3s though so you would have to mod the harness a tad for the cam sensor and knock sensors. They came with 799 or 243 heads so i think they make a tad bit more power than the elders.....

have to watch what you get out of an envoy or TB though, could have DOD.

I got my L33 out of an 06 Silverado. Heres a short list of known vehicles with them:

1 CHEVROLET PICKUP SILVERADO 1500 2007-2007 classic style (creased Dr skin), 5.3L, VIN B (8th digit, opt L33)
2 CHEVROLET PICKUP SILVERADO 1500 2005-2006 5.3L, VIN B (8th digit, opt L33)
3 GMC PICKUP SIERRA 1500 2007-2007 classic style (creased Dr skin), 5.3L, VIN B (8th digit, opt L33)
4 GMC PICKUP SIERRA 1500 2005-2006 5.3L, VIN B (8th digit, opt L33)

Yea i used one out of a 07 envoy. It was a DOD motor. I just swapped the lifters and valley cover from a 6.2 I have and all is well. Thats a good point though I forgot to mention that haha.

DOD isnt necessarily a bad thing, im not sure whats needed concerning modules or what not, but having a DOD 6.0L LQ9 putting out some decent power would be nice if it had DOD to save some gas for those living in a climate that they can drive their swapped car everyday. My mom has an 08 Monte SS w/ the 5.3 w/DOD and it still screams and gets decent mileage on the highway.

DOD isnt that bad. I just hate how they sound when they go into 4 cyl mode especially if you have loud exhaust.
