We have two at work that came out of some Tahoe's. our so called head machanic says they are knocking...Our other machanic that builds racing motors says the lifters are sticking cause they run the same oil they use in the diesel motors....15w-40. They just need cleaning out. I can get them both for $100 bucks. Both have around 140,??? miles on them.

Probably. They're generation III engines though, so they're not especially desirable to someone with an SBC.

Either way though, that's why I said at least $50. Does it matter so much what they're really worth if you can get them for nothing?

lower milage pull outs from a decent junk yard with limited a 30 day warranty usually run a couple hundred bucks, maybe as high as $500. if its knocking or otherwise in need of a rebuild you can probably get $100-$200 a peice.

the only thing that makes them worth anything is the fact that theyre roller blocks, and have the vortec heads. which you can get a good roller block for $50-$100 and a set of vortec heads anywhere from $50-$300, depending on where you go.

 

05 means LSx, so vortec this or that is meaningless

Knocking means core value, so $100-150. The more complete they are, the more you can ask, but dont expect to retire on them

Knowing if they're 4.8/5.3 or 6.0 would help

5.3 and the only thing wrong is the lifters are sticking. Was wondering if they were worth building with cam and head work. My iroc was TPI but the guy before me put a carb motor from a junk yard in it. It is a good motor, build date is 1973, camaro or police car. Just wanted something more dependable than a carb. And I would like to get them just to **** off the head mechanic...he is an a$$.

These are GEN III SMALLBLOCKS. Not Gen I 350 Vortecs!

That said they're probably worth between $300 and $600 depending on condition, mileage, and completeness.

A running, with-warranty, still-has-cross-hatch-on-the-cylinders intake-to-pan 5.3 is worth about $325.

One that had 15W-40 run through it until the lifters crapped out is worth about $75.
