what tubular k-member to go with for lsx swap
Well I been looking into replacing my factory k-member for a tubular one for my lsx swap and Im not sure which one would work best. I plan to run a coil over setup in the frt and run my stock control arms till I get the funds to buy the tubular ones So I guess the BMR k-member is out of the question since its noted will not work with oem control arms. Let me know what your running on your setup and how you like it?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: what tubular k-member to go with for lsx swap
I thought most of the Spohn k members had rubbing issues? I am not done with my swap but i have mounted up my BMR unit with their a-arms and it fits perfectly. Also does the new UMI unit use factory control arms. If so I would definately look at it.

Have the spohn lsx crossmember under my car also. It bolted up perfect, looks and fits great but I did have to shim the passenger side motor mount a little.

I have the Spohn too, but there is some contact from the tie rods. Can I flip the center link for more clearance?

I had to flip my center link for the same reason. I had a tie rod hitting my a/c compressor is how I noticed the engine wasn't level.

Re: what tubular k-member to go with for lsx swap
I have a Spohn K-member. The quality of construction is very good and the overall fit is good. My only complaint is that my engine sat crooked with it. I adjusted everything as much as possible but it would not sit level. I had to modify the engine mount on one side to shim it up to make up the difference. The Spohn K-member seems to be hit and miss. If I were going to buy another I would try one of the other companies such as UMI or BMR.

Re: what tubular k-member to go with for lsx swap
I'm running a Spohn kmember. Install wasn't too difficult and haven't had as much problems as others have had, but wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Going with a UMI one for my bros swap, and will replace mine with one as well sometime down the road.

Does the BMR k member allow for AC in the factory location?

Whats the consensus on the BMR unit? I want to ditch the OEM steering box in favor of a manual rack, so having that option is nice

Re: what tubular k-member to go with for lsx swap
BMR, $529 + $90 (spring perches), A-arms $ 450, great product, cannot use factory A-arms, offers coil over, and pinto rack options.
PA Racing, $319 + $50 (LS1 motor mounts) + $50 (spring perches, upper), A-arms $270 + $50 (spring perches, lower), great product, will accept factory A-arms, offers coil over, pinto rack, and will custom build to your needs.
Spohn, $540, A- arms $425, horrible product with multiple design issues, will accept factory A-arms
UMI, $620, A-arms $463, new to the market (no reviews), will not accept LS1 AC compressor in stock location, will accept factory A-arms
Quick list, PM with any corrections and I will update.

One thing I didnt like about the new UMI Kmember is, it will not accept the LS1 AC compressor in its stock location.

As I stated above I would go BMR. I have one with their A-Arms and everything is bolted up nice and straight. I do not know about the PA racing one, but know they make some nice stuff.

Re: what tubular k-member to go with for lsx swap
Hey guys I've been hunting around wondering this same question that everyone does. My car is an 89 LQ4 swap, will be equal drag/street (half drag use but will also just hurt feelings on the streets when I want to). Here's the conflict, UMI has the double tube on bottom which would help with strength but BMR's is lighter than umi which would help with my goal of getting the car under 3,000 lbs. not worried about ac fitting. Been removed awhile. Prices are negligible (umi $600 shipped, BMR $595 shipped), a arms will be replaced as well. Can anyone suggest the better of the two for my application? Thanks!

Re: what tubular k-member to go with for lsx swap
i have used both and i prefer the UMI road race over the bmr.
the bmr unit has its a-arm mounting points constructed in a way a lot of other a-arms will not fit as an option. also i had an alignment issue with the one i used, the umi has locating pins as the factory k member. the umi allows use of different motor mount options as you bolt the bracket to the k member vs being integral in the bmr case

Re: what tubular k-member to go with for lsx swap
Keeping my fingers crossed as to the Dan Lemon headers and Moroso aluminum oil pan on my big block all working out...with the UMI K member..New waters for this combo
UMI and I talked about sending a K member to Dan for a jig.. but in the last days...I did the ..Ya it should Fit EYE ball thing...Im a bit nervous...its a money shot in the dark...lol.. if they don't fit.. ill have to go with the make that dan uses for his jig..and ..well.. this one will be up for sale.. but we will see..
Side note: will ask UMI to make me one...($) cash is King! I will be doing a Video on the full set up/install..this has taken 9 years of gathering parts.. test fitting a lot of manufacturers parts..some I sold after test fitting. now I have every thing in the aftermarket to bolt on... I can say UMI makes some Fantastic parts..I like there K member the best out of the 3 that I have had/test fit..

Re: what tubular k-member to go with for lsx swap
Sorry for old thread bump here. But does anyone know what’s different about the BMR that won’t allow the stock arms? Guessing you have to use their a arms then or no? Just wondering as I have the K member with rack mounts going in my Trans Am. Interested in going coil over as well eventually but don’t want to purchase a arms with pockets if I end up going that route.

Re: what tubular k-member to go with for lsx swap
BMR keeps stock geometry (according to them) but the features of the k-member itself bump up against the stock a-arms, so you have to use their a-arms. I've never seen where it bumps, assuming it is in the pockets that they form around the pivots.
You can see a picture of the pockets in Post #104, https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...ml#post5438142

Yup I can see exactly what you’re talking about. Looks like I have the same K member as yours perhaps. I need to pull it off the shelf and out of the box. Just wish I had an extra set of a arms I could experiment with and see where they interfere. I’ll get there soon enough I suppose lol
