Help with LT1/4l60e swap
ok guys im really stumped and need some help, i have a lt1 from a 96 Z28 orinally hooked up to a manuel tranny installed in a 91Z28 with a 4l60E.
Everything is hooked up runs perfectly except when i go to drive it, the tranny wont shift out of first gear now i have noticed that the tranny does not have the plug for the "range sensor" if thats what its called plus i used a customer made bracket for the shifter cable.
I hooked it up to a scanner and it reads NO VSS which it does have, and there is NO GEAR selection reading its always in P/N.
if any one can help me please feel free to reach out to me either here or through my personal email kenlamb3@yahoo.com.
Is it possibe that the bracket is causeing all the issues?

The PRNDLE sensor is in the trans harness that plugs in on the passenger side near the dipstick tube.
If its reporting no VSS, and it won't detect the PRND21 position then you may have a wiring harness issue.
Search the boards for the PCM connector pinouts, it'll label which wires are for the trans harness and you'll have to trace them.

iv been doing some more reading and im geussing that i need to get the neutral switch for the 4l60e since it mounts on the side on the tranny wiht the bracket that holds the shifter cable, but will the plugs from my 3rd gen neutral safety switch plug into the one on the tranny?
Not sure if ill have any luck going through the wires i had a guy by the name pocket put one togather for me, i left him a pm also but man its like im so close and yet so far at the same time.

Though now with the 6spd T56 install it is something I will address so that people aren't starting it in gear.

So on your 4l60E you dont even use the neutral safety switch? or you use the factory one from your 3d gen?

Re: Help with LT1/4l60e swap
When the shift select is in OD, D, 2, or 1 the circuit is open and there is no current flow to the starter, hence no start.
The previous owners simply bypassed the switch all together and tied the green and purple wires together so the circuit is always closed and power is delivered to the starter when the Ignition cylinder is put to the "Start" position.'
Is it safe and proper? Hell no, my car can be started while its in gear.
During my T56 swap I intended to fix it by wiring it into the clutch safety switch on the pedal assembly however I did not have the connector to wire it. So I left it alone with the intention to fix it later when I pulled the carpet to replace the interior.

Another question for anyone that knows, when using the 4l60E is it better to use the tailshaft housing off the 700r4 and if so do you use the VSS?

Re: Help with LT1/4l60e swap
problem solved, it was just that i used the VSS from the 700R4 instead of a VSS from a 94-95 Camaro with relutor wheel on driveshaft, thanks to all for your help.
