Redbull's first time out

I decided last minute to head out to the track yesterday to the test n tune to relieve some stress of being laid off work.My car was in no way shape ready for the track but with enough friends and free time..why not.

This is my first time being at the track in ten years and first time drag racing manual trans at the track so I had alot to in a short period of time. And learn alot being an understatement.First I see why many lsx guys warned me about using the ls7 clutch for street and advised Not to drag race it hard at the track..it failed me several times.Secondly I also see why I Need a short shifter and experienced countless 3rd gear misses along with 3rd gear grinding during hard shifting(trans rebuild will be screaming my names soon) and after a few harsh sounding 3rd gear shifts..I started skipping third and just making passes for the hell of it and wasnt concerned about making an impressive time slip.Third..all season tires did not like me yesterday lol..nor did my stock rearend which is barely hanging on..I thought for sure I was leaving the track on a flatbed.

I did about 16 passes and some I didnt get on video. So best time I got out of it was a **** poor 13.5@109.38mph 60'=2.258 r/t=.679 having my full stereo in the car(oops).I played with launching from between 1500-2000rpm which was hit or miss of bogging..or spinning. My slips dont say the temp or altitude etc on test n tune :S. All in all I had fun and didnt break anything too badly and I got alot of compliments on the swap which cheered me up some.

Heres the compilation vid:

Dont beat yourself up man, thats not bad for a first timer. Everything that was wrong is simple stuff to fix. It is all really expensive though(tires, Rear, clutch) Congrats on finishing thw swap though.

Re: Redbull's first time out

Im not beaten up about it much considering other faster cars were not hooking great either. The srt8 supercharged challenger was pulling a best of 13.3 on street tire. The capri I ran against in the vid did a best of 13.4@99mph on et streets the next day.I know there alot more left to be had once the car is buttoned up.I may just do a short shifter and maybe gears this year and call it good for awhile and just enjoy having it on the road with no major issues

Re: Redbull's first time out

Wow,yea next time I go..Im shedding the stereo box, work on my launches and find the sweet spot for the car, play with tire pressure.Little things add up at the track. My 13.7 pass was at 112mph.Topend is very happy!

And I gotta say when I was there I fell inlove with a Gtr! Ive seen lots on the street but never see a guy get on it.This car on bigger rim/tires ..very clean car didnt look like it was touched much was just beating on alot of guys..his best was a 9.9s when I was about to leave :O ..not right how hard that car launches and picks up speed.Just hurt alot of feelings..older men were crying about that car was very amusing.

Re: Redbull's first time out

16 passes with no real issues shows how reliable your combo is at least.

Re: Redbull's first time out

Good point..the car took a serious beating near the end of the day but I still drove it back home 2hrs away like nothing happened.

Yes the new Gtr has a launch mode to make drag racing a breeze.Drive the car down the track with your pinky finger apparently lol.
