OPTI Mod For LS ECU thoughts

You can look at my Vortec distributor mod, (See my signature!) I am always looking to save a buck, as such I am looking for a cheaper mod than the intake ($250 + shipping). so I have an idea to mod the OPTI, convert it to a magnetic cam sensor, forget using it as a distributor, get the 24X reluctor, and pickup, then go with CNP, and use the LS ECU to its full potential. also working on the leaky water pump issue. I finally have the end of my shop reorganize in sight, and my 91 Vert's LT1 on the stand, to start mock up and test fitting of these ideas. any ideas? or thoughts.

Are you talking about the EFI Connection set up?

No, a different approach, but using their 24X reluctor "If you wish" I am not sure of my approach yet. It would be cool if by accident an LS reluctor would fit on an LT, I don't know, I don't have an LS unit to play with. just many thoughts and ideas roaming around in my pea brain.

Why not a different approach

If using the vortec truck distributor as the 1x cam input, why not use a stock 96-97 LT1 4x crank reluctor, then its the same as a LS1 PCM on a SBC using 1 coil

exactally what I want to do. I already have a MSD distributor in my LT1 and running a 7730 ecm with $59 code.

So it shouldnt be to much for me to swap to the vortec truck distrib. get a 96 timing cover , reluctor and sensor. Then a harness.

EfiConnection is messing with similar now.
Quoted from a picture on their facebook page

Here we verified excellent waveform from the crankshaft reluctor. The blue line represents the 24x crankshaft signal and the red line represents the 1x camshaft signal (we used a Vortec distributor in this TPI engine).

if you read my LT1 truck build, you will find that is what I did, only I used the Vortec cap and rotor as well, but used the 411 LS ECU - better control, I am just looking for a way to get away from doing the manifold distributor mod - $250 I am trying to see If I can mod the opti distributor to give me the 1X signal, and then use the 4X crank signal, or the 24x reluctor and sensor for the rest of the system. I do not know how we would distribute the spark short of using the opti cap and rotor with the 4X ??? or If there is room after I mod it?????

Re: OPTI Mod For LS ECU thoughts

DUH ok now that I reread your post It maks sense now, the LT1 PCM is ok but it is hard to get it tuned "I hear??" that and sequential fire is why I went with the LS PCM. If I can figure out a better setup I want to get it setup for CNP and (individual cylinder control / monitoring). that is where the real benefit of the LS PCM will become evident

(individual cylinder control / monitoring) I believe that the 411 can do this, if not ?? maybe someone blew smoke up my backside LOL
