Hedman LS Mid Length Header Install
Just thought I would post these up for anybody thinking about buying a set of these headers.
I bought these because I wanted ground clearance and room to install a set of 4 inch round cats .
The only tough part of installing the passenger side header and that was just a tight squeeze past the transmission bell housing , other than that it was a breeze.

Re: Hedman LS Mid Length Header Install
Oh...so I am confused ...if someone wants to run these style headers on a 305 with 700r trans (91 RS) do you need a modified ( hawks crossmember) for clearance in place of the factory crossmember ?

Re: Hedman LS Mid Length Header Install
I know this is an old post, but it's one of the few with these particular headers. I know the OP and 'streetdemon' used these, but both relocated the A/C compressor. On the Pace website, it says "Passenger side top mount A/C is required".
Is that true, or just they say that to avoid having to notch the k-member like most one this site (with A/C) end up doing?
Also, another thread mentioned these wouldn't work with engine mounts other than the BRP ones. Surely they can't be that different.

Re: Hedman LS Mid Length Header Install
I have these headers myself. Using the SPOHN motor mounts and the crossmember with the torque arm that attaches to it. In the middle of the LS swap right now, but I can try and take some pictures. Had to tweak a few brake lines over but nothing is hitting frame or transmision tunnel right now. No AC though.

Re: Hedman LS Mid Length Header Install
Will these work for using a Y-pipe for a factor fit single 3" style exhaust? Looks like the driver side hangs down just a tad too far for it.
My plan for AC is to bring the AC up top using the accessory adapters for it.

no factory sbc stuff will mount to this including y-pipes.
you will need to fab your own y-pipe, but the rest of the "cat back" exhaust will work.

Really silly these companies don't make a y-pipe to fit.

Re: Hedman LS Mid Length Header Install
you don't run the pipe forward, these are mid-length headers, not shorties. the pipe routing is the same as a long tube. they run down the sides to the back of the transmission and then the driver's side crosses over and y's to the passenger side. if you find my build thread there are plenty of pictures that show this.

Re: Hedman LS Mid Length Header Install
Ok. I'm going to have to look at this then because long tubes don't fit around Auto Trans missions. And even coming up behind the trans, I don't see how I won't have ground clearance issues. Need custom Trans Cross member then.

Re: Hedman LS Mid Length Header Install
Although the Hooker 3rd-gen F-body LS swap headers and dual exhaust system will clear your 700R4, the Hooker transmission crossmember is not directly compatible for use with it. The 700R4 mount location is too far forward, so you would need to purchase/use the extension housing that is available for 700R4 transmissions that moves the mount location to the extension housing at the same location as a TH400. You can almost always find them on eBay.

Re: Hedman LS Mid Length Header Install
Just do a search on ebay for "700R4 extension housing" and look at the ones that have the boss/holes to accept the transmission mount near the rear of the housing. They are almost always available from a couple of different sellers.
