years/engines?
i'm finally going to get rid of my mustang and get back in my third gen. i'm really wanting to do an LSX swap but i have some questions... what engines can i use? i have looked at some 5.3L and 6.0L out of silverados, vans, tahoes, yukons, but i don't know what year starts the Gen III/IV blocks. also, is there a way to "retrofit" a LTX t56 to fit a LSX block? saw some things about gear ratios for the LTX that absolutely won't work. i'm going to have hack up a wire harness for this swap, is it just best to find one out of a late 4th gen? and last but not least, accessories. can i use the truck accessories or are the f-body accessories just the better choice?

Re: years/engines?
This should help you determine which vehichles have what engines: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Vortec_engine
LTx won't work with LSx. From my understanding the main reason is because of the difference in the input shafts, and conversion ends up costing more than going with LS in the first place.
I know it's possible to modify the truck accessories but don't recall the details.
Edit: Here's bunch of links I found earlier:

Much of this information can be found by searching.

I have a 2004 Corvette LS1 that I used for a mock up I would sell, and I could build your swap harness for you, just send me a PM.

You can get a conversion kit to turn a 94+ t56 to an LSX style. Due to the horrible market up here for anything car related this is the route I had to take... And for me it turns out cheaper.
Wiring harness, while it seems confusing isn't that hard once you read, make notes and educate yourself.
The big ticket items are literally only half the total cost. So far I'm $3000 in to the project and I still have close to $3000 more in all the little things I need.

Re: years/engines?
Sorry, I slept in today, and have been trouble shooting another board members swap over the phone.
I bought the engine 2-19-14, its a 2004 Corvette LS1. Asking $2,500 which is what I have in it. It has a 90 day warranty which started on 2-20-14. I got it for my S10 Blazer which was totaled 3-11-14. I have no reason to sell but also no reason to keep it. I offered it to Camaro91 since he happened to be local. It was listed as "complete pullout" but came in minus A/C comp, power steering pump, alternator, throttle body (originally DBW).
