5.3 cam help

im swapping a carbed 5.3 into my 3rd gen camaro, and i plan on going turbo in spring, what would be a good cam to go that will make good power na, and wont be a dog out of boost when i go turbod, the only one i looked into so far is a tick performance stage 3 cam. i dont mind a choppy or big lift cam if its like a ms3, this will be a weekend/track car. Im will probably be using the 862 heads for now since i am building another 5.3 motor top to bottom, car will have a glide and has 4.10 gears, sorry for all the nubie talk, new to this

Re: 5.3 cam help

It is going to be a lot of fab work, and money.

As far as a turbo setup and a good cam, I did alot of research on this myself.

I dont remember which magazine it was, but they tested a whole bunch on a 5.3. The best cam they tested was the ZR1 cam, it made the most power from what I remember . It is designed for boost and will bolt in to the 6 bolt main 5.3.

I would not use a ms3 cam or other cam with big lift. They are made for NA power and turbos dont like huge cams. Better off with the stock 5.3 cam in that regard.

Also, a carb setup with a turbo is called a blow through turbo i believe and it is considered to be unfavorable compared to a Fuel injection intake with a turbo. If you're going 5.3 just use a ls1/ls6 intake. Much easier in the long run and i believe you will save money and make more power this way.

I am planning a 5.3 turbo on my 92 but its alot of planning and money.
