quick 4.8 question
I may pick one up for next to nothing. Low miles. It's out of a 2002 silverado. I usually search but need specific questions answered so I can buy it. So what all should I get out of donor. Engine will be complete from pan to intake . He does want extra 150 for computer and wiring harness. Is it worth ot. Is it needed. I read something about injector harness and if it is or not dbw. If dbw do I need the petal as well. And if put on ls intake does injector harness matter then? Also in order to go carbed for awhile is it alot of parts needed? Basically is it worth the cash to run carbed if I plan to switch to efi 6 monthes down rd

Re: quick 4.8 question
Yes, spend the $150 for the PCM and harness, yes, get the accelerator pedal assembly if it is DBW, unless you'd rather convert to DBCable. Injector harness is necessary with any EFI induction. The 4.8 injectors don't fit the LS1 or LS6 intakes, and neither does the truck fuel rail, but you can get a shaved truck intake to fit under a stock hood, I've done it. The truck oilpan can be modified cheaper than getting the correct pan, and likewise the truck FEAD.
EFI is cheaper than converting to a carb, send the PCM to LT1swap.com for VATS unlock, speedometer recalibration, and whatever else you change for a baseline tune.
Keeping it EFI also helps if emissions matter, and for eventually going turbo.
Plan on selling your 700R-4 rather than trying to make it work, and if you plan on serious power later, go 4L80E now.

Re: quick 4.8 question
Sweet. Thanks for the info. So for the 4.8 ecm amd harness is 550. Or I can get a 5.3 without ecm and harness for about 600. Both around 100k miles

Re: quick 4.8 question
Tough choice. The 4.8 can make as much power as the 5.3, but at slightly higher RPM, and has more potential due to the shorter stroke crankshaft. Plus being cheaper and more complete, the decision has to come down to the heads. Google: "castech" and then check under the valve covers of both engines. If either one has the castech heads, avoid it. If they both have castechs, avoid both and keep searching.

Re: quick 4.8 question
Ok. I'll do that. And I suppose I prob would go with 4.8 because it's complete and it will yield me as much power as I need.

Also I was curious if anyone had used pa racing parts. I want a new k member and a arms. I love how the tubular looks. And pa racing has k member for 399 and thier other products seem reasonable priced

Get everything they'll let you have, but don't pull anything, load anything, or pay anything until you're sure the heads aren't castechs, it's an expensive problem. If the donor truck is 2WD, then that 4L60E can be adapted with just a tailhousing from any '98-'02 F-car. Doing a 4L80E swap is a hassle, but stock it'll survive more power than a max-effort 4L60E with every upgrade in existence.
Any 2WD '96-up 4L60E will work, any 2WD 4L80E will work, 4L80Es were factory-offered with 4.3L V6s in C2500 vans, so that's probably the loosest stock torque converter for the 4L80E, for the 4L60E you want the converter from a '96 S-Blazer L35.

Re: quick 4.8 question
Not the trans, just the converter. 4L60Es that came with 4.3s didn't have the same internals as V8-spec, not as many clutches, etc
Re: quick 4.8 question
Grab everything you can off it.. anything you can't use, try to sell it to help offset the cost.
Everyone wants 5.3's, but the 4.8 is a great motor. Mine sounds like a big block, and spins up to 7200 rpm with the cam I have in it. And 4.8's really, really like being turbo'd.

Re: quick 4.8 question
Ya. I like the price. Everyone here wants to much for the 5.3. He said I can have the harnesses needed for swap. Is it just one harness or is theye a couple. Motor is pulled. Wiring is not. Trans is gone.
