Couple quick LSX swap questions

1992 TBI swapping to LQ4
Can someone point me to some part numbers or a small kit to run -6AN fuel lines from the factory fuel feed and return lines on the LF inner fender to the factory truck fuel rail on an LQ4.

Will the LQ4 stock balancer clear the radiator while using dual electric fans?

Can someone recommend a bolt in radiator and dual fan set up, from an affordable vendor?

This LQ4 is a 2000 model, so it has the thick crank flange. I see so much contradiction information on this forum and LS1tech. I am going to (temporarily) run my 700r4 until another cash bump comes along. I am reading that it should be a direct bolt up and go. Right?

In the future I will be going the 4L60E route, but I am having difficulty figuring out what is NEEDED to make that work, best answer I could find is a custom torque converter? Which is fine if someone here says "That's the way to go."

i swapped my 92 tbi over to 6.0 several years ago. stock radiator and fans will work. i had a stock single fan. the truck spacing will not touch the fans at all. If you are looking to upgrade. champion makes a great radiator. I have the 4 core in my 84.

Disregard this post. This is the first I’ve heard of the long crank

Re: Couple quick LSX swap questions

I'm pretty sure the 700R4 isn't a bolt up and go on a LS style motor. At the very least you need a special fly wheel/torque converter set up. I looked at it a few years ago but don't recall the details and decided not to go in that direction due to the cost of the adapters. Also the TV cable will be an issue and if not right will kill the transmission (probably why so many people think the 700r4 can't stand up to a LS motor). http://bdturnkeyengines.com/install-manual/

The 4L60E from a 4th gen fbody, with torque converter and flywheel from same should be a direct bolt in to the Lq4 and should only require a new trans mount cross member. Drive shaft is same length for this set up.

I'm running 4th gen fbody fans on my swap, though I had the entire donor car so they were "free". The 4th gen radiator also works with little modification. But the stock V8 thirdgen radiator is sufficient to cool a LS engine making modest power. The stock 3ed gen dual fan or a 4th gen fan set up is going to be the most cost effective. There are a lot of ebay fans, but I hear they don't flow enough air, alot of people buy them for the shroud and then put better fans in them. Even the single fan is good enough for most set ups.

Re: Couple quick LSX swap questions

I've read the 700r4 can be used by elongating the torque converter mounting holes in the flexplate.

If you can confirm that a 4th gen 4L60e will bolt and go on the long crank 2000 LQ4 then I'll roll this 700r4 over the hill. Please provide supporting evidence, because buying a long crank lq4 was an oversight on my part .

Re: Couple quick LSX swap questions

I could also go to a 4L80E, I know its native to my engine but what all is involved in putting that in a 3rd gen?

I do also have a TH400 available, but I think I would miss the O/D. What I have read so far is that the long crank LQ4 will have the same fitment as the older SBCs when it comes to the crank to converter spacing. That means that it should bolt to the TH350/TH400/700r4 and the only change I can see is to widen the torque converter bolt holes in the flexplate. I might post all of this to LS1tech and look for an answer there, too. I just prefer my thirdgen brethren input.

It's a tight fit, but bolt on and go from what i've read. Most people have to hammer the inside of the trans tunnel to get the clearance they need, but some are also able to install it as-is without the hammer. Your mileage may vary kind of situation.

As for the 4L60E, I've read a lot about them taking a dump unexpectedly at higher power due to a couple of weak components and that the guidance has been to bite the bullet and go with the 4l80e at anything above stock engine power.

RunawayRadio, Do you know if the stock driveshaft will fit? I'm seeing lots of mixed info there.

Not sure, but if it's the same length as the 4l60 then it should fit fine.

The 4L60E is dimensionally identical to the 700R4. So the lengths are the same drive shaft-wise. There are oddball cases in both types such as the Corvette trans or something from a 4x4 but for the most part there are one in the same.
I had the same question regarding adapting the 700/4L60 to the LS and was directed to this part.

There are also flexplates available or so I'm told but haven't researched that much beyond finding this.
