My first fbody (lots of pictures)

Just got my first fbody. It is a 1988 Camaro sport coupe. It has the L03 305 and a 5 speed. The body has almost no rust on it except around the back window, the AC blows, but it aint cold. I took over 130 pictures today.

It seems one of the previous owners installed a line lock on the front brakes. I strongly dislike the hood, I want to go with a 3" cowl from harwood.

Can anyone tell me why there is so much oil on the rear diff? Also what is the most likely place the oil is leaking from near the trans? That vacuum line that has been cut off the air intake needs to be plugged right? Is there suppose to be so much oil around those pieces in the air cleaner? Also the passenger window only rolls down two inches then starts bouncing and making a weird noise. If you roll it up to far and keep trying to make it go up it does the same thing, whats up with that?

After I bought it I drove 10 miles and the service engine light came on! I knew by looking at it that there was going to be some issues. I plan on fixing all the safety related stuff before I mess with anything else. I have a ton of plans and ideas for this car, I will post more on that later. It limited me to 10 pictures, but I have a lot more. Thanks for checking it out.

Love the hood, but then im a bit partial.

the rear end looks like its seal is blown... i'd have it checked out and replaced if i were you if it needs it.. if not, it could cause a big problem with your rear end and what not.

Good luck with your new purchase.

Looks like the gasket between the diff itself and the cover is bad. I'd say it's the pinion seal, but it looks like most of its coming out of the back. I'd just replace both of them while you have it apart anyway. Not a big deal. The oil on the trans on the other hand is. Looks like your rear main seal is shot. Looks pretty nice otherwise. How much did she cost you?

Re: My first fbody (lots of pictures)

Thanks for the comments.

The hood fits very poorly, maybe if it was painted I would like it more. I was offered a hood off of a 88 IROC today for $50. I am seriously considering buying that one. I will be adding weight by going back to a metal hood, but it will fit properly. Not sure what I am going to do as far as that goes.

I think I may have over paid with the car a little, but I am happy with it. I got it for $2500. I see people on this board getting them for $500, $1000 and such, but as far as I can tell that does not happen around here.

The plans are way to long to list here... I want to get everything fixed, get the car looking good, then put a crate motor in.

Later.

Re: My first fbody (lots of pictures)

the reason it fits poorly is because it's not aligned. i have a turbo hood. when installing it the slightest (1/8") change in positioning of the hood on the supports can lead to a huge gap or being way too close. it has to be perfect or it will be off.

and you're always gonna hear that someone found one in a little better shape for less. it's just a fact. i overpaid for mine, but i love it.

i paid 3800 for mine. this is a before and after pic.

oh and btw that hood is very sought after. if you really want to get rid of it you'll have no trouble getting a couple bucks for it. i have a regular sport coupe/rs hood if you want it.
