The stock paint is looking pretty bad on my 84. its kinda faded and chipped up. Ive really been wanting to get it painted a darker blue.

Unless money is no object you should consider keeping it the same color. Changing a car's color can get costly to do correctly when you compare to the cost of painting the same color.
I used to want to make my red car blue with white heritage stripes. Instead I decided I could do more for my money keeping it red and going with black heritage stripes. Haven't done it yet, but that's the plan.

cost depends on quality. I would not change the color. I am a HUGE fan of blue but 1, the red looks good, 2 very expensive if you want it done right... who wants to open to doors of a blue car and see red???

For about the same price as a nice new complete paintjob inside and out you could go buy a nice blue camaro!

... I paid $5000 in August 08 for a 100% original 85K mile 89 IROC 350. Its BLUE! but it does needs some work. Maybe $1000 in weather strip and misc small plastic parts that cracked and then a primo paint job and wheel recondition to be back to showroom condition. Interior is basically spotless as is the engine bay with the exception of the rusted look on the exhaust manifolds.I would have paid way more for this particular car so I feel i got a great deal. It was the first new car my dad ever bought and we kept it for 2 years before trading it on a 1992 Sonoma 4x2.
I never even got to drive it so after 17 years, I tracked it down and bought it back, now its all mine. Like I said it needs a little work but runs A1 and really only needs paint. Senior Member
