1990 Firebird (old school tribute) project
Hi, this is my first post here at Thirdgen.org! There seems to be tons of guys (and some gals) here who have good ideas and knows what a cool car looks like. I have been back and forth for a few months about selling my 1990 Firebird Formula, for a 77-81 TA. I am pretty decided now that I am going to keep my bird and put my money into that.
My plans for my Firebird is to repaint it stock color (maui blue), add a silver hood bird (77 TA or Turbo w/ flame), silver pinstripes around my car, splitter exhaust tips, and finally a set of silver yearone snowflake wheels. I'm usure about which hood bird to get. The pinstripes are hard to see on the car. They are around the bottom of the car, spoiler, rear windshield, and windows.
Below are images of my Firebird all mocked up. Hopefully the pic is there, if not here is a link to the pic on photobucket. http://s171.photobucket.com/albums/u...rd-mock-up.jpg

Please comment with and suggestions/ideas or whatever. Thanks!

Re: 1990 Firebird (old school tribute) project
If you want a second gen, just get one. The second gen stuff doesn't look good on third generation cars. Well, at least not most of it. Pin stripes, hood birds, etc are too much. Plus that black strip on the door's outer edge stands out too much on the Maui Blue paint job. I've never been a fan of the hood bird outside of second generation cars. The factory hood bird on third generation cars was much smaller than either picture you posted. In my opinion the modernized look of it and the size worked better for the third generation cars than the second generation style birds. If you must have a screaming chicken on your car the actual third generation style chicken looks way better than that.

Thanks for the suggestions and input so far.
@ 87WS6- I am mostly hell bent on throwing a screaming chicken on my hood. I did think of putting the 3rd gen bird on the hood, the only concern I had with that is that the outline of the bird is thin, I will have to look at it more and decide. Also, the pinstripes on the mock-up are not set in stone by any means. It was more just to show the idea.
@ GTAwheelman- Between the two, I also liked the 77 bird more. The turbo seems like a bit much, and the 77 gives more than the 3rd gen bird.

I love the concept. Its a concept that has been in my head forever, and I will do it one day. Go for it, maybe look into yearone's 17" Snowflake replica wheels as well.

Thanks very much for the support of my idea! I was thinking of using snowflake wheels form yearone. I e-mailed them and they told me that the cast aluminum replica snowflake wheels for the 2nd gen would probably work. They said that they did not test fit them on any third gen, which I found very funny because many people on here already used their wheels on their cars.

If you have to put the bird on, use the first one, the second one is wayyy too busy. As for the stripes, ditch 'em, it doesn't look right.
I like the wheels, but not so much the other stuff.

I agree, this is what my buddy has:

The styled verrsion looks much better than the busy multicolor 2nd gen one.
