My White 1985 IROC-Z

Hey all

I just picked up my dream car. It is a white 1985 Camaro IROC-Z with T-tops. It has always been a Michigan car and never driven in the winter, no rust anywhere.

It has all original paint, interior, and dash pad. It has about 100,700 miles on it, and drives great. I plan on putting the original Delco tape deck in the car, along with a new steering wheel because the leather is chewed up. The flowmaster exhaust and 4 inch tips were put on by the original owner.

I have to fix a few paint chips near the rear hatch and putting the IROC-Z stickers back on the doors.

I look forward to spending time here. Here are a few pictures I took yesterday.

Beautiful! What color IROC-Z decals are you going to put on? Post a photo them when you get them on.

Nice pick-up. White is uncommon for 1985. It was a mid-year introduction, look at your build date and you will see what I mean.....mine was built in April of 85. I only know of (personally) 2 other white 85 iroc's.

No, unfortunately they didn't break productions numbers down by color back then. But the number is low. I've had mine since the mid 90's so I have been on the look out for a long time for other white 85's and you just don't come across them very often.

Looks great, very clean interior, but PLEASE get rid of the grungy rubber floor mats.

Floor mats make or break a car, IMO.

The mats were in the car when I bought it. I plan on buying OEM mats, and until I find those ill keep these in. The carpet is in perfect shape.

Based on what puma's car looks like, he has every right to speak his mind. His car is out of this world!

Very good eye. Yes it is gone. My temp gauge has no more resistance and gets jammed in the bezel when you start the engine (common problem) and Im only guessing the lens was removed so you can free the needle, (which is what I do.) I plan on buying a new temp gauge and lens soon.

Thanks for the compliments otherwise!

Re: My White 1985 IROC-Z

First repair:

Gauges. After a whole 5 minutes of owning the car, I got tired of looking at gauges that were dirty and faded that had no plastic lens on them. The tach face was actually rusting and the "redline" was now pink!

The temp sensor had no resistance whatsoever and would get stuck in the bezel when the engine was started. I quickly realized thats why the lens was missing: to unstick the temp gauge.

Bought a set of perfect looking gauges from the classifieds and got to work. I wanted to keep the speedo because it was specific to the 1985 and since I dont remember the last time I was driving at 145mph, the 85 speedo was plenty enough for me.

Heres the tach and temp sensor comparison.

Name: DSC02181.jpg
Views: 615

Took some cleaning wax to the face of the speedometer because it was dirty, and it looked just as good as the rest of the new gauges I got.

Got it all buttoned up and it looks 1000x better now.

My next order of business is to find a nice looking steering wheel.
