From heart attack, to relief, to anticipation

I came home today from work, went to get the mail from the box, came back up the driveway, and entered the code for the garage door. It started upward, I leaned over and stepped under the door. What? There's the Traverse, but my car? Oh, I'm having one of those senior moments at 51. I must have driven the car, not the truck. turn back and see the truck.

To paraphrase Cpt. Stillman, "Where the fu$k's my car!"

I step in the house and ask my wife, and she says she doesn't know because she's been gone for a few hours with the boys. "Did you close the garage door?" I ask. "I think so." Great. Someone stole my car....or maybe it's next to the outbuilding. I walk out to look, but it's not there. I come back in the house exclaiming that we have to call the cops.

"Happy birthday!" erupts from my wife and boys--the 10-year old is stooped behind the couch and filming the entire near-tradgedy. Ha, ha. She explains that she's been planning this--and it was to have been done for my 50th last year but the painter was always saying "next week."

As it turn's out, she and a friend of ours, who just had two of his GTOs (65 and 67) repainted, bought the stripe kit from Phoenix and lined up the painter in May of 2011. When we were over their house this past weekend, Z (Zoran, our friend) showed me the two GTOs : beautiful. It never dawned on me while talking to him about my car, that my wife let a hint drop inadvertantly.

Long story short: I'm without my car. but my buddies will be glad to not have to hear "this year" from me anymore. it's an e.t.a. of three weeks. Just ordered t-top, door, and hatch weatherstripping from 1aauto, and will go out to drop the stuff of with the painter.

Anticipation: it's a wonderful thing.

My wife. the best.

Re: From heart attack, to relief, to anticipation

On my way home from work today, I met the family at Applebees for my younger son's 11th b.d. (His choice.) When I get home and turn into the driveway, there's my car! The wife his honkin' the horn behind me, and the kids are waving and yelling out the window.

Man, it looks good--no orange peel! It was taken down to metal, mudded as necessary, and painted with PPG. But it's not quite done. I just e-mailed 1a/auto because the sealed bag for passenger side t-top weatherstrip actually contained the driver's side weatherstrip. (The bag was labeled correctly, the content was wrong.) The guy who painted my car, just did the weatherstipping yesterday, so I just found out, after 3+ weeks.

Two things:
1) When the car arrived, my son asked my wife why I got such a great present on HIS birthday.
2) the Phoenix Graphix lettering looks to be spot ON. Seeing is believing. So much for for my inquiry last year. I will post pics in the thread which I started.

Anyhow, here are a three quick pics. I'll get some better ones on my website soon, I hope.

gotta go......stare at the car........
