Well, been on here for a bit and gleaned some helpful information as well as a few parts along the way. I wanted to start a build thread on my son’s car we got a while back. He’s 15 and had his sights set on a Third Gen Camaro so we found a nice 91 RS that’s in really good condition. This isn’t gonna be a high-end build since he’s paying for pretty much everything out of his own pocket but it’ll be a great car for him to build some skills on and at the same time get some bang for his buck in the areas of reliability, appearance and performance when we can. He’s already talking LS swap and manual trans but with a 3.1L and 700R4, it should be just right for a new driver and I’ve already told him that if he grenades the 3.1, his next motor will be a 2.8L, lol!
Anyway, the car has just under 100,000 miles on it and had sat quite a bit up until we bought it so, in the interest of reliability and knowing it’ll be a daily driver in the near future, I wanted to go thru and replace some of the components that have already, or would cause grief down the road…doing it on our timeline rather then whenever/wherever it happened to fail. So up to this point, we’ve replaced the fuel pump (after failure), in-line fuel filter, rebuilt the fuel pressure regulator, replaced the fuel injectors (had a bad one) with a set from Southbay, rebuilt the rear drum brakes and replaced the wheel cylinders and replaced the front pads and replaced some misc sensors as well as the heater blower motor after it failed.
As for the appearance side of things, with the car being an RS, he wanted to dress it up with some Z28 items so we found a member on here that had a Z28 hood that already matched the car and after some patience, got a Z28 grill as well that has yet to be installed but the plan will be to find some factory fog lights to go with it. We also did a HID headlight upgrade and installed new turn signal assemblies and while we were at the Goodguys show in Columbus a couple weeks ago, he got some wheels and after ordering up some BFG’s and getting them mounted, it’s beginning to take on a new look!
Here’s some pics of how it sits now and I may add some pics of some of the updates we’ve already made so there’ll always be a record on the ‘ol interweb. We’ll keep updating as we go… Thanks for tuning in!
Looks like a great starter car.
I have been looking at the Ridler 607 polished wheels.
What is the specs on those wheel/tire package? 18x8 ?
Do you have better pics of the wheels?
Nice Camaro and do I spy a 66 Chevy II back there too?? had a little giggle to self the time honored tradition of making a plain Camaro to look like a Z continues sorry not a slam its an homage thing to the king! car looks sharp!

Thank you…yeah, they’re the 18x8’s with 0 offset. I hated not being able to get a 9” wide wheel as it felt like I was leaving some meat on the bone but I didn’t wanna have any tire rubbing issues. My plan was to put 275’s squared on it but hated to squeeze those onto an 8” wide wheel so went the safe route and did 255/40’s in the back and 245/40’s in the front. This gives enough sidewall that it’ll hopefully add some cushion and kept everything at basically a 26” tall tire and seems to sit nicely in relation to the fender lips and has no rubbing issues.
We’ve got some BMR 1.25” rear lowering coil springs ordered to bring the back down level with the front so that should help the stance. Here’s a couple more pics of the wheels…

Yeah, lol, nothing like a little a little false advertisement! We had looked for about a year and really wanted to get a late 80’s Iroc-Z but everything we looked at was clapped out. I finally stumbled across this one in my own town and knew the price was right and it was hands down the best example I’d seen in all my searching, especially for the money so I jumped on it. Figured we could doll it up a little with some add-ons and be money ahead in the long run.
You’ve got a good eye on the Chevy II…it’s a 67 and is my current project. It’s got all DSE suspension and a Gen V LT1 crate motor. The wife wanted something the family could cruise in together so she’s been on me to get it finished. There’s also my 68 Camaro pro-touring car that I autocross in there. It’s got the full DSE treatment with an LS3/525 crate motor, T56 Magnum, etc. but the roll cage makes it hard to have more then two people in it safely for any distance.
Probably the hardest part for him has been that he knows what a fast car is more then most kids his age, therefore, it’s been hard to be content with a V6 so he wants to put all his money towards an LS swap. I keep reminding him that you’ve gotta have the proper foundation and it’s not just about throwing parts at something…but of course, he’s 15 and already has everything figured out, lol!

Thanks for the extra pics. Defiantly a good choice on wheels.
