Old Silver and I Say Adios

After 30 years of owning and enjoying Old Silver, the time has come to say goodbye. The new owner lives in New Mexico so Old Silver will now strut her stuff year around. Best to Ted and family.

I’d like to thank thirdgen members for making my long association as a member and moderator, a memorable one. You’ve generously provided support and knowledge whenever my need required it. My sincere hope is that I’ve returned both your support and knowledge in like measure.

My best to the thirdgen community. Keep wrenchin’, keep rockin’,

JamesC (and Old Silver one last time)

Re: Old Silver and I Say Adios

I sold my 89 after 21 years, a few years back. I obviously don't know your situation, but it was a strange, almost surreal set of emotions. On one hand, It's "just" a car. On the other, it's never just a car, and over that length of time, AND it's the key that links you to so many other social situations like, races, or show, forums, clubs, cruises, etc. etc. It was hard, yet almost a relief at the same time. Anyhow, I hope it was all for positive reasons, and was able to go down on your terms. You've been a valuable asset, and I know I've learned a lot from your threads and posts over many many years. As others have said, stick around! ....but if you don't, I understand.

....a year after getting out of the life and saying I wouldn't be back.....I bought my 88 sooo ya never know!

Best of luck my friend.

Re: Old Silver and I Say Adios

Hopefully you will stick around, even just to checknin every now and then and read a thread or two. Just because you have sold your beautiful car doesn't mean you sold your community and friends with it. Your still family.
And such an amazing car. First car shopping years ago I looked at one identical (but stock), sadly it sold to someone else. I see a car like yours and it brings me back to that car.

Re: Old Silver and I Say Adios

The last time I was on a cycle, I crashed and burned, so to speak. Think "pins". If I mention motorcycle, my wife of 50+ years gives me a "squint eye" that makes my manly parts wrinkle up, lol. Actually, I'm hoping to replace my Nissan 370Z with a 2023 400Z. All's good here in Lawrence.

I didn't think I'd be sad to see Old Silver go. But admittedly I was. And in the stinkin' rain. Old Silver hadn't seen rain in years. Go figure.

Re: Old Silver and I Say Adios

On a trailer, no less! That's no fun! Back in 2015 I purchased a brand-new truck in FL and drove it home to CA. That was a blast of a first drive! KS to NM would've been just as fun of a first drive for your IROC's new owner.

I was going to use Abubaca as an example, but he used himself, so-to-speak lol. I think we all knew he'd be back!

Having owned my Formula since new, along with a new 82 Z28 and another new Z28 in 83, I've owned brand new 3rdgens since they began rolling off of the assembly line, so they're family. I've faced the decision of giving up my Formula a few times throughout the years, and I even considered it once, for 0.68 seconds. But I've always known that I'd regret it forever, so any such thoughts became a permanent "NO" long ago, and, instead, I've invested into transforming it into my "exotic."

But it sounds like you've already planned your future's next move. No need to abandon TGO, though. But if you do, you've been such an integral part of the forums throughout the decades that you'll live here in infamy. Best of luck to you and yours!

Re: Old Silver and I Say Adios

Might see James back someday. I think a lot of us sold our 3rd gens figuring we'd never drive one again. Happened to me in 1998. But I bought another in 2003. Sold that in 2009, figuring that it was definitely the end considering the age of the cars. Than, along came 2018.

Re: Old Silver and I Say Adios

Update:

So what replaced Old Silver in the garage? I'd been hunting for a 2023 Nissan Z for some months but couldn't find one that exactly fit the bill––color, auto/paddles, performance package, etc––until recently (I found and purchased the car essentially online). When it arrived at the dealership, my wife and I drove to Cedar Falls, IA (10 or 12 hours round trip) to pick it up. So far I can say the Z is far superior to our old 370Z. The ride is better, the cabin is quieter, and the twin turbo V-6 makes the car very quick. The modern electronics/safety features are pretty cool too.
