Picking up a cheap '88 Formula 350 this week
If everything goes smooth, I'll be picking up a black hardtop '88 Formula 350 on Thursday. It's sitting in a storage lot that they guy hasn't paid his rent for, so he's working on getting that issue resolved so we can go get the car this week.
I don't know how many miles are on it, but I do know that it's not running right now, last time it was tagged was 2009. I don't know what it needs to be running, since he never had a mechanic look at it, could be something simple, or could be something expensive, don't know until I get it home and check it out.
I ran the VIN and it's a real L98 car, looks to be in solid condition for the most part, has a few rust spots in the quarter panels and on the passenger side fender. The driver fender is smashed in pretty good, but the doors are straight as an arrow and the bumpers are good except for a small crack in the front clip. It has gray interior with 4th gen cloth Camaro seats.
I took some pictures of it today and can't wait to get it home. I'm getting it dirt cheap, won't say how much until the deal is sealed though.

Looks to be potentially promising. EIther way - dirt cheap is good enough for me. I'm sure it'll be a fun project car.

Re: Picking up a cheap '88 Formula 350 this week
When I get it home and can assess the drivetrain issue, and get a closer look at the rust, I'll determine if it's going to be a quick fix and flip, or if it's going to be used for parts. Or if someone gives me the right offer I may sell it as is...
I prefer to fix it up and sell it running though. Maybe put a new single stage black paint job on it if the rust isn't too bad though.

The spoiler is completely wasted. And I believe the radio is from a Camaro.

PM me a price whenever you figure out what's wrong with it and/or fix it. I want another daily driver.

Just got home with it. It's not bad but I found some smaller things wrong and the only thing that will keep me from parting it out is if i can get it running.

That'd be a good move to put in that Buick turbo V6 you have for sale. It would be a real sleeper!!!

Re: Picking up a cheap '88 Formula 350 this week
The buick motor isn't mine. I'm advertising it for a friend who is putting a turbo 6.0 in a Grant National.
May have it sold to someone local that is going to use all the TPI and interior parts. If he doesn't buy it I'm going to part it out. It has some major electrical problems that I don't care to spend time on.

I feel like you're in the thirdgen slave trade. Picking up hooker/street walker cars and dicing them up or restoring them on your whim.

Sad to see a Formula 350 get wasted. One thing if it was an LO3, but you just don't see Formula 350s anymore...

Re: Picking up a cheap '88 Formula 350 this week
The new owner is thinking about putting a good short block in it and then selling it as a running car. The old motor was locked up and it looks like one of the pistons smacked a valve.
I made some pretty decent money off it towards my paint job, so he can do whatever he wants to do with it.
