82 Firebird

Not as nice as some others cars posted here but i still love it. I bought it five years ago from the original owner for $1100 and have since put a lot of my own time and money into it. Ive redone the entire interior since it had sat for 10 years and had become somewhat of a nest for critters. I also had the brakes redone along with some brake lines that match the car (my dad custom makes lines for any and all cars, if youre interested lmk). Im hoping i can find the pics of the progress i made with that but i fear they were lost when my previous computer died. Anyway, ill try and post up pics here as i slowly improve the car. Somewhat soon to come should be an MPFI intake, SFC, Cam, Rockers, 4:10 gears, and a few other goodies.

Sweet Firebird! What is she running under the hood? I am assuming either LG4 or LU5 since you are talking about installing high performance parts.

Re: 82 Firebird

Thanks! Actually, its only running a 2.8.

I realize that makes A LOT of people cringe but i already have a V8 project so id like to work with what i have. Im not trying to make an all out performance car with this one since i want to be able to drive it daily in the summer months without killig my bank account. lol

I forgot to mention that i have some headers and dynaflow exhaust on the way.

Its all good, I have a 89' Firebird that has a 2.8 and I have no complaints. In my opinion they Pontiac balanced performance and fuel economy perfectly, the 2.8 that year got 102 HP and if I'm correct its carbureted right? Plenty of room for improvement without sacrificing fuel economy, plus its a great daily driver. Better than the 2.5 "Iron Duke" That thing couldn't get out of its own way lol, I don't understand why Pontiac would put such a small engine in such a heavy car?! But they say at 90 HP it got 31 to 34 MPG and was the "last true" Pontiac Engine?

Re: 82 Firebird

Yeah, the main reaosn i bought the car aside from the body being in perfect shape was the fact it had a 2.8. It is carbed right now but i picked up a full MPFI intake with ECM and harnesses for a great price so thatll be going on very soon. Odd are after the intake, headers, and exhaust ill work on stiffening up the car since it seems to sway a bit and that doesnt sit well with me since it has t-tops. Since ive already had the engine out once (right after i bought it) im going to wait to do any other major engine work until i get all the parts together. The Iron Duke was as far as i can recall the last true pontiac engine and as cool as that is, that engine is pretty much worthless unless you are only looking for fuel economy. lol

Love pulling a 6! They are so light and easy to maneuver specially in a firebird/camaro. They are so roomy under the hood and so easy to work on, you can virtually reach anything and everything. Spark Plugs, Starter, hell even the Rear Main Seal is a dream job on a 2.8! Most jobs on the 5.0's and 5.7's are pain in the neck, knuckle busters and have me cursing the whole time. Even spark plugs, on my 5.0 I have to pull 6 from the top and the last two I have to crawl under the damn car! lol on my 2.8 it only takes me 30 mins or less my 5.0 I'm lucky if I'm done in 45 mins or more lol. Good choice on the 2.8 in my opinion!

Re: 82 Firebird

Thanks and i agree. Im actually going to try and make a little more room by moving the fluid bottles or swapping them out for some 4th gen style ones (take a little work but imo makes everythign look much cleaner).
