I have 1LE spindles stored in my garage and it has the same darkish-grey color as my original standard spindles from 1989. It has a look as if there was an oxidation process to put a protective surface coating on it. Everything is from the desert and there is no rust.

That's the front subframe for my 70 firebird shell that's just out the picture to the right.

Re: "it" has begun....

Here she is in her 10year bare metal state, just waiting for it's turn under the paint gun. 70 body but putting a lot of my 73 formula parts in it and I have piles of NOS parts to go on it. Was a bare shell when I bought it almost 20 years ago but it did have a nasty pearl paint job over the factory green paint

That looks super straight, what you got pinned to the front for binders, they look a little bigger than stock....

Re: "it" has begun....

I had 14" 2 piece Baer rotors and 06 ZO6 6 piston calipers at each corner but traded them off and I'm wanting to go another way. I think that's just a 13" Baer rotor on there now.

Found a picture of them, 06 ZO6 6 piston calipers for all 4 corners and 14" 2 piece rotors

The heads are being ported and the shortblock should be here soon. A little behind but life could be worse.

Another boring post but think I have all the stuff to do the small to large distributor swap without cutting the factory harness like SLP did.

Yes, the 92s are small cap distributor, I need to use the large cap dist and I didn't want to cut the factory harness if I didn't need to.

My Scummit story: I have always bought 8.5" ring gear spacers from Mr. Gasket 908A IIRC and they talked me into their brand and after 2 or 3 arrived that the special L/H thread ring gear bolts that were smashed i finally insisted on Mr. Gaskets

Re: "it" has begun....

Did a little port work and cleaned up the EGR a bit. Hope to be putting it on the longblock this week..

These rear calipers were black. Not perfectly clean but a lot better. Still have a bit more I'll clean up like the rusty bracket. Have new Delco rotors and NOS pads to install yet.
Also worked on the Dana axle spacer and axle endplay/preload stuff.

Re: "it" has begun....

So I'm struggling with my oil pan choice.
Do I use the stock pan like the Firehawks or do I put on the NOS Hamburger oil pan setup I have? They were available through SLP on the SLP 50hp kit (optional) but haven't seen a Hawk with one.
1st world problems I know...

Re: "it" has begun....

As much as I say use it, I might go stock personally. When I bought the blue T ram iroc from Dave he told me over and over about how the SLP hamburger pan that was on it was a nightmare to seal from day one, and that it never really fit right from the get go! and when I got the car, it was leaking and loose, and I tightened it up and replaced all of the hardware one at a time and got it sealed up but it still loosened up again later

Do I use the stock pan like the Firehawks or do I put on the NOS Hamburger oil pan setup I have? They were available through SLP on the SLP 50hp kit (optional) but haven't seen a Hawk with one.

I didn't have quite that many problems with mine back in the day but this one has never been on an engine either

Re: "it" has begun....

Google Wittek tower hose clamps. Pretty sure the OEM clamps are marked Wittek. Got something similar on my Mustang's heater hoses, but I think they might be marked with a Ford logo.

Have a couple, they’re original, but I didn’t notice any markings. Paint is peeling, but they work properly.

Re: "it" has begun....

Heads on, rockers adjusted an rocking. Waiting on "correct" intake gaskets, which oil pan and waterpump I want to use. I've been looking for a "correct" original looking waterpump for quite awhile but since they all now seem to have that silly port on the top, may as well use the aluminum GM performance parts pump or the Edelbrock aluminum pump I have. Also been busy working on other small details for the engine, engine compartment and suspension..
Looks like I may need a better camera too..

How come all your pictures have something mysterious and even more interesting in the background? It's like your garage is a car guy paradise.

Re: "it" has begun....

I hear you can have a stock water pump refurbed if you don't want the universal aftermarket style with the return port on top. Got a couple stockers on the shelf to rebuild at some point myself, but haven't looked into a rebuilder yet. It's the limitation of small town life, not a lot of specialty shops around.
