Just picked this gem up on July 12th. Was originally a 5.0 / 5 Speed and the previous owner swapped in a TBI 350 with a 280H Comp Cam and a Edelbrock 1405 Performer Series 600 CFM carb. Towed it from Northern KY back to my place in Richmond KY. After doing some carb tuning and timing adjustments I was able to drive it to a friends place in Frankfort on it's first real road test and it did pretty well but there's still some work to be done....
Currently on the to-do list :
- Fix leaking electric fuel pump (It currently has a Mr Gasket 12S fuel pump which looks pretty beat up and is mounted on the drivers side rear floor pan. I'm going to relocate it on the gas tank skid plate)
- Replace shocks. 2 are unbolted (1 Front/1 Rear). The others that are hooked up are past their useful life. Feels like a 400lb man riding in a john boat going down the road. LOL.
- Replace leaking thermostat housing plugs.
- Reinstall center console, radio and heater controls.
- Do a bit of wire tracing, second previous owner who pulled the engine I assume was going to make a drag car from it and cut the engine wiring which was fine but the also cut the headlights, turn signals and other misc wiring under the hood.
- The passenger side tail light is a bit dimer than the drivers side which I'm sure is related to the wiring being cut and spliced.
- Add a an actual shifter because the car did not come with one and reaching down the shifter hole to change gears is a PITA.
- Vacuum out all the rat turds and shredded plastic bags/paper.
- Radiator mounts, it is currently held on by a piece of mechanics wire.
- Re-attach hood to hinges
- Add Power Bakes (The PO said he had tried to hookup the booster but it bogged the motor down, from what I can tell he tried hooking it up to the front of the carb and didn't use the back port)
- Add Power Steering
Parts to find :
- Radio
- Headliner and center console.
- Headlight motors (Just in case)
- Rear View Mirror with Map lights
- Shifter
- Wiper motor
- Power Steering pump
Guess P/O couldn't decide what color he wanted motor giggle Welcome aboard and good starter car! keep us updated. lots of help available here if your not sure what you need to do
Hi there,
Looks like you have a good start on a fun project car. What are your ultimate plans for it?
I agree, it's got solid bones and not a huge amount rot which is something I do see alot of in Kentucky. My ultimate plan is to make a nice street cruiser / car show vehicle but on a budget, not because I don't have the funds but I always like a challenge.

LMAO. I thought the same thing, the motor looks like Rainbow Sherbet. I plan to pull it and do a nice paint job on it here soon. Thanks so much, I know I'll have plenty of questions the more I dig into this.

I'm still looking for one! This one has been hacked to bits but I might be able to save it and give me an excuse to use nice a pretty wire loom. LOL.
Welp, had some time this past week to get alot of things taken care of, the first thing was to get rid of the mouse turds and things they had shredded throughout the car. OH JOY.
I feel bad for whatever weasel, snake or creature ended up in the rear quarter panel part but I the Shop-Vac got him out of there without a problem. I also wasn't going to lay down in this mess when I'm going electrical work under the dash, so it got vacuumed aswell.
After getting the carpet cleaned I figured I'd remove it and see what may be lurking below it. I couldn't see any rot, rust or holes from the underside but you never know.
However, looks like I got lucky!! Because someone has cared enough to put padding down so the jute padding wouldn't be a sponge a rot the floor out. SCORE!
I'm going to try and see what I can do with the carpet, I've had good luck in the past using Dupli-color Vinyl/Farbic paint to be budget friendly and beside the fading the carpet isn't ripped or wore down so I'm going to try my best to save it!
