Historic tags in MD

Someone here had suggested that Historic tags could be had in MD for Camaro's after 20 years if they were out of production. This is not true. That rule only applies if the MAKE is out of production, not the model. So it looks like I'll have to wait a few more years!

So how did Mad-Mic get historic tags for his '82? And who is his hookup in DMV?

FWIW, I called DMV about Street Rod tags last week and was told the vehicle only had to be 15 years old. I asked the lady what the definition of "altered" meant, and she said, "Ummm, altered."

'91 Sentra SE-R, altered

no hook up.

just show legit documentation or find the young guy at the booth and tell him you want historic tags for your 82. thats what i did. it's not the make of the car cause they still make chevy's it's the model. 20-24 years you can get historic. 25 years or older only for street rod tags.

do a google search for maryland dmv and do a search. all the info is in there

Quote from MVA

"The vehicle is between 20 and 24 model years old and is a make that the manufacturer no longer produces, as verified by the manufacturer (supporting documentation required). It is not substantially altered, remodeled or remanufactured from it original construction. "

You don't need to go to emissions. I have 7 more years left. Grrrrr. I hate emissions. I am due right now and have to spring for a $450 catted y-pipe.

Yeppirs, my 79' malibu also has historic tags. It's really nice not to have to do emmissions, and the reg fees are cut in HALF!

Too bad the camaro still has 4 years to go.

MD Historic tags....again

Here is the web link for the MVA form:

http://www.mva.state.md.us/OnlineServ/DOCS/VR-096(8-01).pdf

Notice under option 3 it says MAKE not MODEL out of production.

Also, it's 25 years for Street Rod's (IE, "substantially altered").

If you gottem anyway, let me know which cashier to see!

well they still make chevy's so i guess your out of luck

trust me it's the MODEL not MAKE. there was a young dude at annapolis MVA and he went to his supervisor with out documentation and she said "aren't they like the el camino? they don't make them any more. Ok here ya go"
