my thirdgen is sick.
hi everyone. i have a 91rs thats been giving me some problems. it makes a loud ticking noise, is running real slow, and i was told by a mechanic down here that i dont have compression in two of my cylinders on the passenger side. i just dont know what else to do anymore. that mechanic ripped me off and now im out of money. any ideas on what could be wrong? please help!

If you don't have enough compression in two of your cylinders, the car isn't going to be very fast. If he did a compression test, did he also do a cylinder leakage test to pinpoint what is causing the loss of compression?

thanks for all of the quick responses. like i said, the mechanic wound up ripping me off. i have parked the car for now until i get some more $ to fix it. dont go to accurate tune car center, theyre crooks. they even took my haynes manual out of my car, and didnt even guarrantee their work or give me a receipt. dont think i have any leaks. oil pressure seems to be fine. could it be burnt valves?

well if you got oil pressure it sounds like the bottom end is fine, it is probably valvetrain related.
ditto on what MetalliCamaroRS said.
Also if you want even more responces try the Tech / General Engine board. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech-general-engine/

Low or no compression could be caused by burnt valves. It could also be a cracked head, cracked piston, blown head gasket, etc.
That's why they should have done a cylinder leakage test so you know what you're chasing.

Two cylinders have no compression. Are the cylinder next to each other? either way it's not going to be cheap if you can't do the work yourself. Anyhtime you have to pull the heads off it's BIG $$$. Sorry to say it!
