Anyone Got cutouts?

I'm in the Nova Area(1 mile from Springfield Mall) and would love to hear some cutouts.

unless you know somebody that will let those cutouts slide during state inspection, you wont pass...if you do however, let me know!

all u have to do is cap it and it will pass. and on top of that my cutout is after my cat so i mean its the same exhaust that is coming out of my tail pipes.

Re: Anyone Got cutouts?

I never had a problem with inspection when i had one in my exhaust. But i may not have had it inspected while i had it, i can't remember. Capped i see no reason why they would be illegal...but i did have a cop pull me over once and was looking at my exhaust and just kinda stared at the cutout for a few seconds then let me go. He was checking if i had a muffler(which i did), but i guess didn't know what the cutout was or what it was for. It was capped either way at the time.

Don't try driving around springfield with it open...you will make noise and you will get pulled over. If you run a cat with the cutout open its not that bad but if you don't have a cat or its gutted with an open cutout its essentially open headers...very loud and very annoying.

Re: Anyone Got cutouts?

Kris : That sounds great! where are they on the exhaust? is your engine a 350 or 305? What size did you get and will that fit my car?

91green Bird: Yes it is for a stock 350.

I plan to get electric ones so I'll be able to open/close them at any time. Yea they are quite strict here.

Re: Anyone Got cutouts?

Hey this is a little embarrassing to say. I'm sort of new to American cars and their parts. LO3 is a 305 V8 right? What size cutout did you get? Will that fit my car? Thanks for the understanding.

LO3 is a GM manufacturing/option designation code for a certain 305 with certain parts in it.

You buy a cutout that fits your exhaust system. Just a matter of finding a place for it, getting the diameter right, and getting it welded in.

I think yu're in a little over your head though so I'd hold off for a little while. Stock L03 exhaust is pretty pathetic, a cutout would be like putting a bandaid on a severed head.

Re: Anyone Got cutouts?

Ok I guess what I'm trying to say is how do I know the outside diameter of the pipe under my car? Short of wrapping a string around it and figuring out D (Cir=D*pie). Is there any other way?

Re: Anyone Got cutouts?

i cut out some U shaped pieces of cardboard in quarter inch incriments to measure exhaust once and it worked well. i think on the RS's it was 2 1/4 inch pipe and the Z's were 2 1/2 stock but im not 100% ive heard everything from 2.5 to 3" for the Zcars but it will probably be 2 1/2 or 2 3/4.
