I Got Pulled Over Today

Ok there i was driving, minding my busniess, not speeding or anything. a cop drives by, looks at me and pulled a u turn. she didnt put her lights on yet, she just started to follow me. I was following my friends and the cop was behind me, then we get to a light, and the cop got right next to my car and looked in and just stared at me. Then i had to turn so i got infront of her and then she put her lights on and pulled me over. Im like....what did i do wrong? there isnt anything i did wrong i wasnt speeding or doing a improper lane usage, so there is no good reason for her to pull me over! The biotch comes to my window...."i puuled you over cause i noticed you didnt have your seat belt on"......???? this cop pulled me over just cause she didnt think i was wearing a seat belt!?!?!?!?! i ALWAYS wear my seat belt, but i dont wear it going over my shoulder cause the holder on the chair broke, so she just couldnt see it.... so then started to question me if i did drugs or if i had a bomb in my car...i was like WTF lady! she gave me a warning for having a cracked windshield, and having stuff hanging from my rearview miror. i got a ticket for having a expired insurence card too!! the insurence card is understandable i suppose,,,EXCEPT IT WAS A ILLEGAL PULL OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From what i was told, a cop CANNOT pull you over for suspicion of you not wearing a seatbelt!!!!!! SOOOOO in gonna go take this to court and FIGHT IT!! stupid cops!!

In Illinois they CAN pull you over for not wearing a seatbelt. She could not see the seatbelt so she thought you weren't wearing one. Sorry man, its the law.

Yeah I understand completely. I'd be upset too. In my town, for about a month they actually had a cop sitting in this parking lot with binoculars cracking down on seatbelts. I know Illinois has been really trying to cut down on drivers driving without one lately. If they can pull you over because they believe you are drunk, then why can't they pull you over because they think you don't have a seatbelt? I dunno though, I could be wrong. Good luck though.

OK, I'm majoring in Criminal Justice, If I remember right it is like this in IL:

you CAN NOT be pulled over for not wearing your seat belt, however you CAN be pulled over for no seat belt when the have "seat belt checks" (like in High school when they sitting down the road before school)

does this make sense? Heck I don't know I'm not in government.....well not yet (politics)

Wellll

I was young for one.. and as I stated.. I had 23 moving
violations..

There was one cop that used to wait for me at the
end of the street.. and when I would leave for work
he followed me all the way to the County line which was
like 14 miles. He pulled me over constantly...
He pulled me over and gave me a ticket for having a scented
leaf hanging from my center mirror.
He wrote it as "Had obstructions blocking frontal vision"

Another time I was driving to work third shift..
he pulled me over.. asked me to step out of the vehicle.
searched my car with a partner that was with him..
and he made me open my trunk, he found a knife I had back
there and he gave me all kinds of crap about that.
then he gave me a ticket for having a cracked taillight, he looked at my tires, and gave me a ticket for not having enough tread thickness, and he gave me a ticket for having my license plate not attached to the front of the vehicle, (on firebirds it looks ugly so I put it in the window)
and not to babble.. but this one reall sucked.. another time he gave me a ticket for speeding, when he clocked a ninja motorcycle that was flying up on my tail and I was going 50, and he said I was going 78 in a 55, and I got the ticket. and that ticket caused me to get suspended cuz of other violations.. thats when the real nightmare began.. but thats another story.

Wrong you can not be pulled over for supision of drunk driving. You have to get caught for speeding, improper lane usage, out head light or tail or some other misc traffic violation.

Hm, makes sense. I'm no law expert by any means, but if they can see that you don't have a seatbelt on (or it appears that you don't), then why shouldn't they be able to pull you over?

And bluebird, I wasn't really calling you an *******, just had to use that quote. That cop seems like a dick.. a ticket for not enough tread on your tires? Did all those get tossed in court?

1) I know.. I figgered that.. I can read into messages pretty good.. been doing it long enough..

2) the tickets...

All the little tickets like that got tossedd.. but the speeding tickets that I got repeatedly, some got dismissed, some got court supervisions, some were in different countys...... haha it;s a long story... I have 80% of the tickets in a big manilla folder in my filing cabinet..... I always show people I meet cuz they dont believe that I could get that many tickets and still be driving... but with an attorney.. a lot of things are possible.. it just costed me a lot of damn moola

I still get some cops in town that act just like that. I think they stay up late at night watching cops and decide that they are living the show. they are nuts my car is clean and well kept up and I am a clean cut person but, they never stop. this one cop pulls U turns in the middle of any street just to follow me. and I guess he can do that some bull on how they can follow you if they suspect something. thats what the guy at the station said when I complained about harassment. I even said it in court when he gave me a faulse speeding ticket. 55 in a 25 jerks!

either some cops are real dicks or some are just simply on a power trip. I got pulled over in the righe lane with very heavy traffic on my way to a car show by the Minnesota state patrol. he was in the left lane and he must have seen my tail lights, you know how it is with heavy traffic stop and go stop and go. I removed my tail lights and on one lens I taped the inside off and spray painted the inside of the lens so it would light up with the letter "T" and the pass side would light up with the letter "A". well he said it was illegal and I asked him about all the Dodge Ram pickups driving aropund with that ram cover over their tail lights and all he said was that they are cracking down on them to, which was a bunch of bs. then he gave me a ticket b/c I didn't have my insurance card on me even though I showed him my ins bill, ticket for not changing my address after I mo\ved which was only 3 weeks prior, and the old air freshner in the windsheild bit. I never did change my tail lights. the cop was younger than I am((about 25 or so) and he had a female partner. I think he was on a power trip and showing off a bit to his partner. sometimes not much you can do, if a cop wants to pull you over to be a dick they will. by any meens don't argue with them on the road about it b/c it will only make matters much worse. let them get their little high then see'em in court.

Hate to say it, but.. "I told ya so"

I think people should just put their seatbelt on anyway. It takes a half a second, I don't see what the big deal is. My cousin was involved in two semi-serious accidents before he even turned 16. Both of which, he was not wearing a seatbelt. The second one knocked him out and put him in the hospital for 5 days. He can barely remember any of it. Thats reason enough for me to wear one.

Maybe I can help just a little bit. A recent addition to the seat belt law to work in conjunction with the graduated drivers license law that affects all of you younger people. You CAN be stopped for not wearing seatbelt if you or any of your passenger appear to be under the age of 18. It's pretty subjective since there are a lot of people out there that are older than they look.

A seatbelt violation is just about the only thing I don't give warnings for. I do think the system is too hard on younger people when it comes to the graduated drivers license law.

they are the cops of the fricking forest. but in there they have all the duties and responsibilites and perks of a real cop. they can do anything in a forest preserve. personally i think they should just watch out for smokey the bear and hope he doesnt mysteriously show up

Yes you can. Haven't you heard of their "click it or ticket" campaign? The law says you must wear a seatbelt. Police are supposed to enfore the law. If you are breaking the law by not wearing a seatbelt, then police CAN pull you over. Just take the extra half second to put a seatbelt on- its not that big of a deal.
