My neighbor would like to purchase a 85-92 Z28 to restore and teach the kids how to work on cars. Willing to travel reasonable distance to look at and buy. Looking for ok to good body, running or not running. Engine size not important nor is interior.

He is not looking for the rust bomb ready for the junkyard or the one you wraped around the telephone pole.

Lets just be reasonable here guys. You know I will be doing alot of work on it because I want another Thirdgen on the block!

u wouldn't want a 1984 camaro 305 v-8 runs and auto tranny. 154,xxx miles on it. it has rust, but its not rusty rusty.

My first 2 third gen's I bought were a 85' sport coupe for $40 and a 84' Firebird SE for $35. Both started and ran excellent. I drove them home with no work needed.

I am not a tight wad nor do I have unreasonable expectations. Base model third gens are not worth much because they do not come with valuable options.

I know of 3 TPI cars in my area right now for a little over $1000 OBO. They are 88' GTA, 86' Z28 and a 91' Z28. I live in a metropolitan area where there are third gens all over the place.

You may live where the only cars you see are yours or your friend. This makes you think your cars are worth more. If you see large quantitys of cars such as I do you know you can find them cheap.

 

Hey guys, guess where I'm doing all my car shopping from now on... ...Cars can go for 4% of their Blue Book value down there. ChevyCamaroZ-28 you should feel good, he offered you 20% of Blue Book.
BTW, please don't be offended, we're not all rural boys here. You don't live in that big of a city. I'm from Milwaukee, a city of 596,974 and I go to this little city in MI for college called Flint, pop 124,943. Thats compared to 98,359 for Davenport, IA.

I am not trying to offend anyone here. I am just trying to make a point. A sport coupe is not worth 1000 bucks even if it is a V8 car.
Sport coupes go for $200.00 around here. You don't have to like it, just accept where I live and the condition of the cars that I see. The region I live in has a population of almost 500,000. Davenport is just one of five major cities here and numberous suburbs.

I was born in Park Ridge, Ill and grew up half my life in Skokie, Ill I am living here attending Ham Tech and in my last semester of the bachelors program in electronic sciences. I am on a budget and so is neighbor. Being frugal doesn't mean I am cheap. I spend freely where the green is really needed. Under the hood gentlemen. Thank You and Done.

 

Not trying to defend the 1000.00 price tag but i used to live near davenport and for 200.00 there or any where else for that matter your gonna get a **** bucket of a camaro that would be lucky to make a 40 mile trip. I could have bought a camaro one time for 100.00 but everythin was f***ed on it bad tranny,motor barely running missing ect,radiator leaking, brakes shot needed pads rotors calipers,tires bald body rusty, interior shot,suspension shot, so usually you get what you pay for.

 

My neighbor wants a project. He has 7 years to complete it. The kid is only 9 right now. He doesn't care if it has interior or not. He doesn't even need a drivetrain. He just wants a decent body for a start. The only stipulation is he wants a car with gfx and it has to be a 85-92Z or RS. Soooo if you don't have what he is asking for, don't post! Thank You.

funny kevin, i live like 5 miles from you and NEVER see ANY camaros for even $500. Sorry but i have to burst the bubble here and say that youre nuts. And why would you destroy a good camaro and put that **** 388 into a parts breaker stock camaro! From what i saw from you when i met you i thought you were a down to earth guy BUT man wake up and quit bull****ing there are no camaros here for $200.

 

I showed an 85 to Kevin a month ago for $150 with no engine. It was on Hickory Grove rd in Davenport. So they are out there.

 

NO MOTOR. It was probably a rust bucket also.

my 86 sport coupe came with gfx (not aftermarket either, they fit the sc bumper, dont have spots for decals on rockers all that stuff) came with power everything t-tops, v8 all the goods that Im almost certain a z28 of that year had, with the exception of badging.....I know for a fact my car was worth more than 200 stock
