Where to drop off an engine block?

Ok, winter is over, so I need this engine block out of my trunk. Where should I take this thing to get rid of? Junkyard? Iron recycling place? Where?

you could take it to a junkyard. junk steel is like gold right now so I would find it hrad to think a junk yard would refuse it. if a junkyard wouldn't take it you could take it to a machine shop maybe, they would put it in thier scarp barrels. steel right now is going for roughly 80-100$ a ton and 4 chevy small blocks would be about 1 ton so if you have anymore steel than would ad up to alot of weight it would be worth taking it to a recycling ctr to get some money for it.

Hey Stekman,

You can take it to Louis Padnos Scrap Metal. I used to work there. Its off of the Ann st. exit off of 131 North. Get off there then take a right on ann and then a right off on to turner. They will even pay you for it. Not sure how much though lol.

Just for reference, a small block chev "block" weighs 166 pounds when new. By the way, that is the weight of a one piece rear seal block. It may vary by a few pounds one way or another with diffrent blocks.

well a sbc with all internals, heads, intake , water pump is close to 400lbs, basically you need a long block motor to get the most weight out of it. I was the guy that posted the junkyard reply under Dave84birds name. I was at his house last wkend and I didn't realize I was under his name when I posted it lol.the last time a buddy of mine and I went to drop off some motors for scrap we figured it would take 5 sbc to equal a ton and get roughly $75-$100 for it all. alot of places will make you drain all the fluids first so anyone planning on doing this make sure you drain the oil and coolant first.
