Heater core!

So the new Camaro had the heater core bypassed, and I was hoping it didn't mean the old one was shot - so I hooked the hoses up and got a foggy windshield after I tried to purge the air from my cooling system. Snap! Last night I bought a new core but it was too dark to install it, and this morning I had a nice green puddle in the passenger side floormats. Now I've got the old one out. I can't really tell where it's leaking from, but that's alright I guess. Now the hard part. Putting the new one back in. I work at 3:30pm! Wish me luck! (I have a different car I'll be driving to work...)

Re: Heater core!

Alright! Got the new one in and positioned. The pipes are through the firewall, and it didn't take any bending to get them to fit. Now I just have to screw everything back together. I may just drive this thing to work today! All in all not so bad (so far) This was my first Third-Gen heater core (did one in a 98 Sonoma - That's a pain!) I started at about 10:40ish this morning. If anyone is wondering why I keep posting on here instead of just doing the heater - it's cold outside! I need to warm my frozen fingers! I suppose being a small guy helped with the work.

And she's good! Just drove her over to a friend's house and no leaks or bad hoses. Awesome!

Re: Heater core!

U can do them in an hr or two.

From under the dash without pulling it out like the manuals state :-)

Attacking the screws blind is about the only hard part involved.

agreed, i just did mine about a month ago and start to finish was about 2.5 hours. lucky for me, the douche who had my car before me just but all the hoses and bypassed a bunch of stuff. so that was the hardest part was getting everything ran right again. athough i did leave the throttle body bypassed.

Re: Heater core!

Well - as an added bonus (kidding) my windshield doesn't fog up and freeze over! I hadn't washed the coolant residue off of my glass yet, but it seems to resist the interior icing that my Grand Prix is experiencing this time of year! I almost want to keep it one there! ( I purchased Rain-X's interior glass anti-fog. Anyone know if it's any good?)

Re: Heater core!

Now, I won't rule out installer error, but does anyone have any ideas as to why my new heater core my have just junked out on me after just under a month? I'm going to check it out and see if it's cracked, and I kind of hope it is. Any other reasons a heater core with the proper coolant level would fail so quickly?

Re: Heater core!

It did, and - I got it from Murray's.

Exchanged it for a new one under warranty and put that one in today. Hope this one works out.
