MI- My Camaro got Destroyed!!!

Someone hit my camaro last night while it was parked in front of my fathers house. The guy who hit it was drunk and he flipped his car. The car has extensive rear driver-side quarter panel damage. The convertible top frame is bend, rear control arm and control arm mount are bend, the floor behind the driver seat is ripped open. The rear subframe is shifted toward the passenger side, the driver door is pushed into the front fender, the rear wheel is cracked and the shock is broken off the rear end.

I havent made my decision but im leaning towards parting it out. However, im too disgusted to even look at it right now.

I will post pics later.

Jay

Honestly if anything like this ever happened to my car, I can't say that I wouldn't wind up in jail.

I'd be inclined to pound the guys skull in until I couldn't lift my fist anymore.

Re: MI- My Camaro got Destroyed!!!

Thanks guys!!! Im going to try and just get rid of the whole car. Although I know I can make more parting it out. The damage underneath is extensive. I only had no-fault on it due to not driving it in the winter and that loser didn't have any at all.

@FireDemonSiC

If he wasn't already in the ambulance when I got there with cops around....

Here are some pics. I'll try to take some underneath shots later.

Really think thats worth the $1850 you have it posted on CL for? I mean is FAR from repairable and selling it as a whole you would never get the value of the parts installed. I know if someone bought it with the intentions of parting it out they could make some coin on the T56 but not at 1800...

If your interested in parting it out let me know, I may be interested in the hood as it appears not damaged. I am located in Warren. I would be interested in the car but not at $1850.

That is horrible. I hate drunks

That is repairable. Quarter panel, wheel well, top frame, and misc. other pieces would need to be replaced. Putting it on a frame rack can get everything in line for a quarter replacement. If you have the money it is doable. Don't hurry and get rid of it. It would be better to get another vert and swap everything if you don't want to fix the car.

I would be pissed if some idiot or drunk ran into my car.

For the sake of respecting the OP's post, I'm gonna try to keep this civil but man this guy's car just got completely trashed. Do you really think that you had to call him out in front of all of TGO like this for something on a completely un-related website? He never even mentioned it here...

He stated the underside was extensively damaged. Your talking triple what the car is worth to get it repaired. No way would someone repair that car.

For the powertrain he has in this car, $1850 might initially seem a bit steep for a totaled car but I don't think the initial asking price was completely unreasonable.

Not sure what happened with the double post. Oops...

Sure it sucks that his car got trashed, crap happens tho. He has it listed for sale and I inquired about it. I wasnt going to send him a email on CL because he did show any interest in parting it out, here was just as good as anywhere to post that I would be interested in parts, like the hood if he chooses to do that. He did state here he was looking to get rid of the whole car, therefore he kinda did elude to it

I am not going to argue with you but a LT1 T56 drive train in a totaled car isnt exactly top dollar parts. I mean you can get a complete LT1 engine for $350-400 all day long. the T56 is where his money is at, I am sure he can get much more then $1800 parting it out if you dont consider your time worth anything at all. Fair price for the car is what anyone will pay for it with the time involved to make it worth their while, he wants $1850 for it, I have no problems with that but i'd wager he'd have it for a while.

Nowhere did he mention that the car was for sale on craigslist. Any asking/agreed upon price no matter WHERE he attempts a sale is 100% between the buyer and seller. If you think It's too high, that's fine you can look somewhere else.

Your post clearly has a backhanded undertone to and if you felt that way you could have just as easily sent him a PM about it. You really had no business calling him out like that.

Re: MI- My Camaro got Destroyed!!!

Also for someone who wants to buy the car as a whole for THEIR PROJECT, a complete LT1 motor, T-56 trans and 3.73 rearend plus all the other pieces they might be able to sell/salvage is not unreasonable for $1850.

Not to mention the fact that seller's will ALWAYS start a bit high on the price because every buyer and their uncle is going to haggle. It's how the game works.

By posting this in an open forum you pretty much made it everyone's business.

But whatever man. I really have no intent on getting this guy's post locked. It's just that people like you can make TGO real frustrating sometimes.

lol yeah someone like me who only posts when looking to purchase something, clearly where I posted right below the comment the OP made about getting rid of the car. If he gets $1850 for that more power to him and best of luck to the buyer! Maybe you should move on make your comments about how much getting hit by a drunk with no coverage insurance on his own car sucks, etc etc.

Clearly if one cares about their car they would have some sort of coverage on it, especially in a no fault insurance state like MI where he lives. Although I totally get the cost, etc as I was once there, but thats the risk you take and this is the cost you pay.

Re: MI- My Camaro got Destroyed!!!

honestly whats the debate right now. no offense but you started an arguement that was unnecesarry. darren saw the car opn craigslist, the guys probably got alot on his plate right now, id be freaking out if that happened to my car, the tool comment, really are we in high school still? he wants to get rid of the car one way or another parting it out would be most cost efffective and replying to this instead of filling up the mans email or blowing up his phone seems like it would save alot of hassle. we could probably debate the insurance thing and the price of the motor and trans for a long *** time
leave it up to the op to decide what he wants to do with it, he can make his own prices, darren was just stating the cost efectiveness of parting it out as to seeling it, because thats likely what the buyer is going to do anyways.

back on topic im extremely sorry to hear about your car dude, dont give up hope i know youll come across another beauty that will keep the memory of that car.

Re: MI- My Camaro got Destroyed!!!

If I lived closer and the price was $1500, id snag it up, IF the t56 wasnt heart in the wreak, with the rear end twisted like stated, and shown, the drive shaft had to have smashed up into the trans and most likely broke some parts inside. The torque arm would have been rammed forward as well and most likely did some transmission damage as well... so really even parting it out, he could lose a lot, and have non stop head akes trying to sell the stuff and taking it all apart, and the hole time knowing he is stripping down his baby that some jackhole smashed. Yeah things happen, but the drunk should pay for it.. end of story, keep the car take the drunk to claimes cort get a good lawyer and get him for what the cars worth, on paper... then part it out, or sell it as a hole... OR EVEN BETTER keep it, and buy another... one loved child dies to give life to another... the way of life man.

Yeah that's a good point. In VA if you're in am accident with someone who chose to pay the uninsured motorist fee you have the option of taking them to court. since it was a DUI, I doubt you'd even need a lawyer.

Re: MI- My Camaro got Destroyed!!!

Wow, I come back to the thread and I read all this bs about my asking price. The car has a lot new parts on it with the receipts to show. I started the asking price at $1850 because I know people tend to low ball you and I figured I would get somewhere around $1500 for it. I opted not to part it out because honestly I just don't have the time.

A LT1 with complete wiring harness and computer could easily bring in $500.

The T56 complete with new clutch assembly, shifter, bell-housing, new master/slave cylinder and pedals could easily bring in $1200.

Plus with all the other new suspension parts and not to mention my SLP Headers, Hooker Catback Exhaust and other parts my asking price is justified.

The buyer could make way more then my asking price by parting it.

Anyway, thanks to all those that have shown concern.

Jay

hey jay, how much would you pay for a car like this as a whole?
Now there is 3 michigan members on here willing to probably buy parts off of it, and with all of us know a ton of local 3rd gen guys we could probably take a lot of your hand, plus 200-350 when you have a shell of a car to take to the scrap yard.
I cant find the CL add but get a hold of us if you decide to part it out

P.S. please put full coverage on your next 3rd gen even if you dont drive it in the winter. Some people in the D just dont care about other people and their property.

Re: MI- My Camaro got Destroyed!!!

So sorry to hear about your car Jay, I think we all just learned a lesson about the need to fully insure our cars no matter how or when we drive them. Sorry again, good luck to you with the sale, however you decide to do it.

Re: MI- My Camaro got Destroyed!!!

Hey Darren and Tyler and Greg!!! Oh and Jon. Lol. Part it out I might be interested in cutting the cert part off the car like the harch/trunk. And the top and the window from top part.

Let us know if you wanna part we would buy some parts.

As far as axle goes I would take a really good guess that it's bent these things bend really easy..... For retarded people that are prolly Gunna say bend it back. Is it really worth it for these rearends? And for the people that it is then your just retarded cus there's only like another million rearends out there for cheap.

Re: MI- My Camaro got Destroyed!!!

Thanks guys!!! I did learn a lesson. Next time I definitely will keep full coverage on the car. Anyway, I sold the car to a buddy of mine who is working on a project. So at least I will be able to see it go to good use.

Thanks again,
Jay
