Need help... up to 2 hrs NWES of Lancaster County PA
I purchased a car that had all kinda performance upgrades done. One included taking the AIR system off... edelbrock headers... and flowmaster 3" exhaust. Well, Lancaster County started requiring emissions now. I can't afford to put new headers in my car atm, but I need my car so I can drive it. Does anyone know of a back-alley shop that will let me slide with the emissions part? I'm a 91 so I don't need to be hooked up to a machine. I don't mind puttin the cat on... or the air system - but I just cannot afford to put new headers on atm. The current ones in there do not have air tubes installed, which is why they're requiring new ones. I'm sure getting a sticker would be cheaper... then I can take the next 12 months to fix the header problem...
coolcalico2001@yahoo.com --- thanks.
Or... I heard that some states only require you to put so much work into your car before they will just give you an exempt sticker (and then you absolutely NEED the work done to pass the next year)... does anyone know the $$ amt for PA... or if they even have this procedure here?? Thanks...

if you dont mind putting the a.i.r. back in then just weld the fitting to the headers. you can easily fabricate it and welding it on is a 10 minute job, if that. edelbrock's air equipped headers have ony the bent tube portion of the system on the headers, unlike stock manifolds which have the bent tube splitting into 4 other lines. if you have the fittings for the stock manifold, weld it to a bent tube and weld it to the header. total cost for that shouldn't be more than 20 bux. as for letting you go with emissions, you have 30 days to make it pass without paying for the test again. after that, i don't know. i think it would be the same as not having a legal inspection sticker, nice fines. best of luck to ya.

I'm up in Stroudsburg, i hope they dont start all this emissions crap up here, I havent heard anything from any of the guys i talk to up here, but I'd be screwed, shortie headers, no air, no cats and glass packs (crap i know, getting rid of them soon).

if they do that you'll be in the same boat i'm in, emissions exemption. you don't have to pay full cost but you have to pay for exemption sticker which is somewhere around $20. dot just loves screwing us out of money. oh yeah, you're only allowed 5k miles a year with the exemption.
