i was wondering if the rest of you firebird guys hear your car being called a camaro. almost every time i go some where some one always says "hay nice camaro" or something like that. and the guy i bought the car from thought it was a camaro. i'm not kidding he wanted my beat up old chevy truck so he called me and asked if i wanted to trade it for his camaro. i figured it would probably be beat camaro if he was willing to give a straight trade for the truck but i went and took a look anyway.i get there and there was a blazer and a firebird in his driveway so i asked wheres the camaro and he pointed to the firebird. i laughed and pointed out the firebird and pontiac emblems on it. the guy bought the car as a midlife crisis kinda thing five years ago and never drove it just sat in his drive way. and i later found out from his wife that when they got the car it had a big gold bird on the hood. but that peeled off with the clear coat. is it common that people confuse them?

 

yep, my firebird formula would get called a camaro when I drove it.. it's garaged right now and has been for a bit... but yeah some people don't know the difference...

 

yeah, nobody cares(regular people) I care!. I correct them all the time. I just say its faster than camaro

 

Its happened to me alot. I use to get mad, but it doesnt bother me anymore. its not like I dislike Camaro's. I love them too. Im just glad they have an idea of what it is. My area is heavily into the tuner scene, though its shifting back towards muscle and other cars, and your lucky if they know anything past a Civic... Every now and then I'll get a Knight Rider joke at a drive thru or something.

 

ha it could be worse, people called my S2000 a Miata all the time. now thats reallllly annoying!

 

My camaro just yesterday got called a "nice firebird" so I'm enjoying these responses

 

Here I was thinking it was just my area. When I was younger I used to get angry at people calling my 'bird a Camaro. It's so commonplace around here I don't even bother correcting any more, I just accept it.

 

yeah, i've had a bunch of people call my car a camaro, despite the "pontiac" logo on the back and teh bird decals.

Also had people at a show as me how i fit the big block in the car. I dont have a big block.

People who are not "car guys/gals" dont always know the difference between things. I dont usually correct them, just say thanks and smile.

get called a camaro alllll the time by the r1cer kids..kinda gets me mad but its whatever...i just say thanks and keep on rollin.

 

usualy i just laugh at there mistakes of thinking its a camaro. if a ***** called my bird a camaro tho i'd probably say something along the lines of nice cereal box toy. luckily where i live every one drives a big lifted truck. i have only seen one or two rice cars.

Honestly i've never seen anyone once confuse firebirds with camaros where i am, or vice versa for that matter

yes, i got in a fender bender (paint brushed off of the front bumper no damage at all) the other night, officer writes down a few things in his car and has me pull into the gas station across from the intersection we were in to give me a b.s unsafe driving ticket. after he leaves this lady getting gas runs up to me, she goes "hey nice camaro, i had one exactly like it like 10 years ago." i said "maam this is a trans am". she says "well i saw it and it looked like my camaro and it brought back memories."
people worry me, lol

 

she worries you like i said earlier the guy i got my bird from owned it 5 years and still didn't know what it was. people like that worry me
its nice to know that im not the only one that has deal with people confusing them. and that the confusion goes both ways.

 

Saw the title. I have to say I never thought about that for you camaro... I mean Firebird / Trans Am guys.
My car gets called an IROC all the time. It's a Z28, kinda annoys me but I just smile and say thanks.

 

if it makes you feel any better i have a 87 camaro with a three inch cowl and people tell me i should get the firebird painted on the hood like every other firebird. and i have had it for a year now and a couple of my friends still call it a trans am or firebird. im pretty sure it goes both ways.

 

Seems to happen to me at least once a week, for the six months a year i can actually drive it. I generally give people a break since the only place on the car that says Pontiac is between the tail lights. Although i have corrected some of the people at work several times.

Owning a car for 15 years and not knowing that it was a firebird is just wrong. I have to wonder how many parts store employees and service techs had a good laugh on that guy.

 

A woman at work told me she had a camaro just like mine except her headlights went up and down...
I just said; "Cool"

I was returning something at Home Depot and someone came in and said a black Firebird was hit out in the parking lot. I said to myself "I'm glad that's not my car", but then realized there aren't that many Thirdgens on the road anymore. Sure enough it was my dark blue Camaro.

 

I had a couple guys confuse mine w/ a camaro but they were just kidding...no one actually serious though, atleast I dont think so lol

 

just remineded me of my dumb ex. we went to lowes to get stuff and i parked next to a black firebird with a cowl like mine. my car is a dark blue that alot of people call black drives me crazy. so i forgot wallet in car. i gave her my keys and said go out to car and get my wallet, she was gone for about 15 min, she comes back and says my key wont work and she bent it. i walk out and went to my car and she yells at me saying i was going to wrong car. had to get new locks and keys made cause she could not tell the difference between a camaro and firebird......

 

wow. you shoulda ran back to the guy and slapped him for his stupidity.

 

I've had mine called a Camaro a few times. But the one that almost had me falling to the ground laughing is when someone asked if it was a Laser!

 

I got my '85 iroc this week and today was the first day i brought it to my work. One of the waitresses i work with asked me why my firebird said iroc-z isnt of formula on the side . I couldnt stop laughin after i heard that one

 

yea a guy up the street from me that i talk to all the time was tryin to get me to buy his "pontiac Z28" thats exactly what he called it he asks me if i want it everyday for like the past two weeks but i never correct him on it its funnier that way ,but he kinda got a reason someone pulled a z28 emblem off a camaro and put it on the backbumper and he never knew the difference dispite the bowtie beside Z28 lol

 

HAHA I had someone tell me nice supra once.....I just shook my head and walked out of the gas station without saying anything.

Hahaha. This happens to me all the time and I always correct people and say its a Trans Am. Another thing that bothers me is when people call or spell it camero. I don't even own a Camaro that bugs me.
