OK, I just got off of the phone with Jeremy (RednGold86Z) , how many of you would be interested in a "dyno day" at his shop in San Luis Obispo? I will be happy to be the middle man and coordinate this for everyone if you would like, just let me know your thoughts... I hope to have my blue car back up and running within the next 2 months or so, depends on how long they take to build me a custom set of headers, then do the finishing details... The black Z28 I just sold is ready to go, so we could strap it to the rollers in the meantime and see what the 383 does with a stock intake
Let me know guys / gals...

Brian, we have yet to discuss the final $ , I would like to get a rough head count, that will determine a time frame, then we can go from there.
Dwayne... you in? I would guess almost 225 at the wheels for you...

Oh Man... You WISH he was only putting down 275! ROFL!!
Anyways, depending on the date, I might be game. I wouldn't do the dyno bit, but it'd be fun to meet up with you guys again. I'll wait and see how this turns out...

You really think that his hunk of junk will put down more than that? What, maybe 285 - 290 at the most? It is only a little blown 383..... LOL

I need to do this. It depends on the date though. My next open Sat is Aug 23.
Last time I used a dyno was when I got 200 RWHP on the stock 305 and we paid $40 for 2 pulls. I'd like to see 3 pulls for that $.

Jason,
You can count me in but I have a question. How do you compare rear wheel HP/TRQ to the dyno test results that most companies use. For example, TPIS has dyno results for a motor very similiar to how I built my motor. This is done on an engine stand so it must be at the flywheel. Is there some sort of formula that converts back and forth??

As a general rule you lose aroud 20% to the rear wheels through an automatic and less with a manual.
I'm sure theres a formula somewhere but thats why a rear wheel dyno is cool because you know how much you really have. And with exhaust readings you can find issues at specific RPM levels. Too rick at mid throttle or worse too lean at WOT, stufff like that.

Thanks Dwayne,
I have an auto, so I would loose 20%. That calculates out to a 1.25 multiple to get back to flywheel HP, I think.

That's our old website. We have someone working on a new one. When that website was made (before I got a job here), we had like none of the cool features that the website said we had. Now we actually do have block learn, and some other cool things. I laugh everytime I look at that website. Our main market is in China and we have to pass new emissions limits there, because they are trying to clean up their air for the Olympics in 08.
Right now, I do have my GTA running on our system, and I have it rigged in a piggy back fashion, where I can switch between GM ignition, injection, and IAC independantly and on the fly. With only the most minimal tuning, I've exeded stock torque (by 12 lb-ft) in some areas (hard to get the full RPM band with an Automatic on a dyno), and am within 2 Hp - just need to tweak the spark and tune some more with the wideband in there.
Anyway my coworkers and I are tossing around some numbers for cost. Maybe if you guys get together and try to come up with a price, or deal, or whatever, we can come to an agreement.
The tuning that we can do is only for aftermarket EFI systems. We don't have prom burning equipment or anything. If you'd like to tune your own car while we drive it on the dyno that will be just fine too. We have a Lambda Boy (wideband UEGO)- kind of cheesy, but it works, and a 5 gas analyzer. We can even stick a thermocouple in an oxygen sensor bung if you're curious.
Any questions can be emailed to me at jschmidt@injectionlogic.com
