Thunderhill Track: Willows, CA

Hey Sac-Crew, Bay Area, Nor-cal folks:

A friend of mine at work who has a twin turbo 300Z and who is also on the track committee at this Thunderhill mentioned an upcoming Track Day they are having. Sure, there will be a lot of Z cars there but it sounded like they were not adverse to some "F" cars showing up.

The details are here:

Club Z Track Day: Nov 11, 2004

They are sponsoring a driving school, allowing laps to be run, and generally having a high time.

I'm not sure if my friend was making an allowance to let me come OR if they were looking for some comic relief but it still ooks like a lot of fun.

Here is the "Techlist" the cars have to meet in order to hit the track:

Club Z Tech List

I may show up just to watch and/or take a ride.

This road course looks awesome. Check this out:

A lap around Thunderhill with it's CEO

There is one Laguna Seca type chicane with some significant elevation changes that looks like a whole lotta fun.

Lol, only 192,000? it wont blow anytime soon, ive got 268,000 on my 92, and it still runs great. When i come back to cali, i plan on joining the SCCA, and racing at that track, and the two others in california (searspoint & laguna seca) with my camaro, maybe we can get a group of third gens and cruise up there sometime.
let us know how the track was, if you raced, had fun ect...

I am so in!

The track day is still to come for this event. With the way things are going at work though, it's looking like I won't be able to make it. Pre-Xmas is always crazy for us in the games industry.

Hammer time. Death marches. You know the drill.

Hell, who knows? Maybe I'll need that time off at that time to decompress. Burning a tank of gas in record time is always a blast.

So when are you coming back to Cali? Whereabouts would you land?

I graduate Friday the 19th and i have a plane home directly after (not wasting anytime) Lakeport is my hometown where I plan on spending a little time, before I get a job, and start life. The areas im most looking into working around are the sacromento, red bluff, redding, & corning areas. mostly cuz they have some circle tracks that I also plan on racing at. It mostly just depends on where i can get a good job.
Where is san mateo in relation to these places?
have you been to that track, or sears point, or leguna seca?

Graduating from Davidson maybe? UNCC? Well... it sounds like an NC school anyway (I graduated from App State in '91). What is your degree going to be in? Silicon Valley has, um, specialized jobs...

San Mateo is just south of San Fran and about 15 miles east of the coast. Very few strips or tracks around here (read as: NONE). Laguna Seca is south about an hour inbetween Santa Cruz and Monterrey. You really need to make time to spend a whole week in the Monterrey Bay area. Really beautiful: Carmel, Big Sur, Laguan Seca, Monterray/Pacific Grove. Pretty relaxed (although expensive).

Sears Point (or Infineon Raceway) is actually closer to the Bay Area. Inbetween Novato and napa in Napa County. Prolly 1-2 hours from Sac (guessing)

Sounds like you are focusing in the Sac area. Third Gen folks around there are pretty cool from what I can tell. You won't have any problems hooking up with buds.

Drop me a PM if you head to the Bay Area. I'd be happy to meet another North Carolinian educated, third gen owner.

Update:

Last Thursday was rainy. Despite this, CLub Z had the event and apparently had a lot of fun. I number of cars spun out (go figure) but no damage was done.

I was talking to my friend about the event and mentioned that we were thinking about having a meet with the Nor-Cen Cal folks. He all but invited us to share a future track day with them in the new year. There are dates available through June. I'll bring this up on the thread that is discussing the meet.
