Thunderhill Raceway

Hey Guys/Gals,

Ross (1991le) forwarded me this email from the Thunderhill rep to post.

I for one would like to hear about the options and costs depending on how many were interested.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Ross,

Sorry you and the club were unable to make it on Saturday. Hope you had a good day anyway. I wanted to ask you if you and your club would be interested in a track day here at Thunderhill? There are many different options for you as far as what you do here and its mostly up to you. For instance if you wanted to do a show & shine and drive on the track too, that could be done.If you wanted to just have 4 or 5 of your friends come for a play day, you could do that as well. Not sure if this interests you or not but if so, lets talk about some options.Look forward to meeting you soon. Thank You.

Re: Thunderhill Raceway

:sounds like fun, cost is a MAJOR factor, would it be per car or drier, or both?

Re: Thunderhill Raceway

Yeah I would imagine the cost depends on the event, but could be pricey!

Oh btw, I forgot whom was asking at the GTG about bracket racing rules.

For Sac Raceway, 11.49 and faster requires a 5 point roll BAR, 9.99 and faster equals a roll CAGE and a lot more stuff.

I guess that's why I've always said mid-high 11's is just fine with me! No plans to add either in my GTA.

I saw the google map of the track. Did you go all the way around the entire raceway or just a section of it?

I went around the whole thing, not sure if they run a partial or not, be kind of hard to do I think. Turn 5 they can either set you up to go to the top or skip that bit. Here's a video from their site... http://www.thunderhill.com/assets/mu...arpromomed.wmv

Thanks EC for the attached video. Yeah, I think I would have a big grin on my face if I'm able to go around that track.

Re: Thunderhill Raceway

so...are we talking third gen only, 'cus more cars would mean lower cost per can/driver if we rented the track, also my brother has a 4th gen t/a that I er uh HE has put a ton of work into that I am sure he would love to try on the track, and his brother in law would likely want to take out his (girly) miata.

Hey Ross - I'll send you a PM as well, but it looks like we have at least 12 cars interested in getting on the track one way or another.

Let us know what options and pricing are out there and we can discuss what we need to do to make it an affordable / worthwhile trip.

Re: Thunderhill Raceway

Ross is still working on it, but initial communication shows that it's at least a couple hundred bucks per car to rent for a full day of on-track fun and that's with a group requirement of 25.

So yes, we would definitely have to open it up to all sorts of makes/models that are interested. They said you can also join in with other clubs that are on their list to get to that 25 #. Ross is inquiring to get more info and to see what other options are available.

Re: Thunderhill Raceway

Went out to T-hill today, probably the best way to it is to share the track with another club. It will maybe keep the cost down, depending on how many cars show up in both clubs. We would have to share the track, but after 5 laps, the car will be begging for mercy anyways. There are NO speed limits, passing is encouraged, pretty much whatever you think your car can do, go for it. If you spin off the track they have tow trucks. If you set off a brush fire after spinning out, they will put it out. They have paramedics there. If you break your car, they'll tow and store it for a few days till you can tow it out. There are covered pits so your not in the sun all day. We would have to get together with the GM of the track find a good day that works and try to find somebody to share the track with or ask if we could share the track that somebody has allready rented. They also rent helmets for $30.00 a day or bring you own. It is alot of money but it's cheaper than a ticket and nobody is pulling out in front of you off a side street. After talking with Ray about all this, he throws me a helmet and puts me in an Audi R8 for a couple of laps with one of the intructors. Pretty fun....130mph down the straightaway. Turn 5 is an elevator ride from HELL! Anyways, think about it..

I have no idea what the elevator ride from hell part means/would feel like, but the rest sounds f'n awesome.

It appears they are really prepared there and have you covered for catastrophic failures and that's always a good thing.

Count me in still, just need a good amount of time to plan ahead, especially if it's only available on a weekday.

A lot of inexperienced drivers cut loose on a track and encouraged to pass. Some people drive like they own the road and will not look for others trying to pass them. Does anyone else besides me foresee some crashes happening?

Ross, do they have any stats on cars crashing into one another during these type of group events?

Re: Thunderhill Raceway

They'll probably hold a driver's meeting and go over some basic rules like don't pass a person till you're waved by. Another rule (at least on the Viper Days event) was if you do go off track, you need to pull into the pit lane and an instructor will ask wtf happened and how you could avoid it in the future. I'll ask a buddy of mine with a Nova if he'd want to go also just to get the car count up.

Jennifer was getting her car ready for Thunder Hill
But a couple hundred bucks sounds high, everything is X2 for us, she won't sit back and watch me drive, and vice versa. We would down for a gtg, and watching others tear up the track....BUT I found this http://www.trinitytouringax.com/http://www.trinitytouringax.com/TTC%...e%20Flyers.pdfI know Redding is would be a drive for most, but $35 a car would be doable for most, we would have no trouble going to Sac, or the Bay for this kind of event.
I Know the speeds are A LOT slower, but sounds like a rush anyway.

I think it is pretty much like a lake cop...have a good time but dont F-up. If you do they'll come over to talk. Just have some common courtesy, watch your mirrors, and be safe. There are spotters all around the track watching, so keep that in mind. As far as the elevator ride, watch the video and imagine 50-60 mph. All you see is the hood and sky. Then you drop off camber, downhill, arouind a corner.

Here is a little inspiration for you guys! Track racing is a must! I wish i could do this more than drag racing but its to darn expensive.

I did this back in March. I was invited by Hotchkis suspension. They wanted to do a camaro blog. They had 1 of every generation there except the 3rdgen. It was pretty awesome. This was at Willows Springs. I got to race with TOP track drivers.

Re: Thunderhill Raceway

I'm still up for this when the timing is right. I would assume no matter what it's at least $200. So for those that want to drive, start saving and maybe in the fall?? Of course anyone is welcome to come spectate as well and we can make a nice gtg out of it.
