Yes you can. Just the way a 350 can be stroked to a 383, a 305 can be stroked to a 335. Mostly it's a waste of time and money though.

I wouldn't say its a waste of time and money, because hes running a carb'd motor if it was a tpi(stock long runner design) it would be a waste. the problem with the 305 is the size of the cylinder bore is small, so to make power you have to spin the motor at a higher rpm. all depends on how much power your looking for. you can take the 305 rebuild it throw some mods at it and have a quick car.

305's are still limited with the small bore so you can't run a larger valve.

A 383 isn't a waste of time though imo.

I know with LT1 blocks you can stroke them to 396s, 406s, 412s and a 421 if you really want to push it. I never see Gen 1 350s past a 385 though.

No, the problem with the 305 is the size of the cylinder bore is small, so you can't use a decent-sized valve, which limits airflow. If you can't flow air into it, you can't spin it to higher RPM to make the power anyway.

The additional cost of 335 pistons compared to 383 pistons pretty much makes up for the cost of a bare 350 block to rebuild.

You can throw some mods at a 305 and have a quick and fun car, but if you're going to do anything at all to the bottom half, you're a whole lot better off starting over with a 350 block.

bah there u go praising your lt1 again lol.

if u count aftermarket blocks, u can get a smallblock (highly modified) to cover enough ground for 454 cubic inches thanks to World.

but hey my next engine is gonna consist of the warhawk block, ls7x. its gonna own someday!

Actually I was commenting, hoping someone would know of a 350 someone stroked out that far, because it's really cool. And since the two blocks are very very similar internally, I don't see why it couldn't be done. But like I said, I don't think I've ever seen one.

And yes I know 454 gen 1 smallblocks are available. They sell an aluminum 454 small block LT1 as well It was originally a custom one-off, but the guy sells them now to anyone who has a few thousand laying around.

I'm curious if you can stroke the small block 454 to something bigger or if it's "maxxed out". I know a BBC 454 can be stroked to damn near 500 cid, like 490 something.

a .030 over 350 with a 3.875 crank is a 396, sure its the same as an LT1

I believe I've even heard of a 502 small block. They're not really conventional small blocks though, they're aftermarket blocks with tall decks, spread rails and raised cam centerlines. Only the bore spacing is the same.
