Why 4th gens suck.
Tonight, I run out to my car in the rain, and fire it up. And what the hell, but low and behold, my frick'n dashboard is lit up like a christmas tree. Albeit a few weeks too soon, My coolant level sensor, brake light, ABS inop light and ASR light all stayed permanently lit for the drive home. Of coarse, being rain outside, did not take long to realize my ASR (traction control for you non-4th gen owners) really was not functioning. I am sure my ABS is not as well, but I am not taking that chance on purpose. Yes, my E-brake handle was down all the way as well
And that, my children, is why 4th gens suck.

why they suck....
I am so torn by the 4th gen F'n bodies. The 3rd Gen has lines that I really think will be classic, just like the 69 camaro, in another 30 years, where the 4th Gen looks generic and tends to disapear in a crowded parking lot.
However, I'm fascinated by the engine block changes that made it able to boost the compression ratio and provided so many avenues for performance increases, plus the better ride and handling.
What do you think Travis, is the ride and handling as vastly improved as all the magazine write-ups claimed??? What about the differences you've noticed in the fit and finish? I know the Consumer Guides books claim that the owners of new 4th's were just as likely to never purchase a new camaro ever again as the original 3rd owners.
Nissan's. I'll agree with the '**** on Nissan' crowd. In 95 I bought a new Nissan pickup. One exact year later I was so disgusted with the mileage, fit and finish, seats, etc that after getting a flat tyre in nowhere Montana, that I traded it in on a new Toyota Tacoma; was to embarrased by the quality to even try and sell it myself. The Tacoma's V6 engine got better fuel mileage on the 4x4 platform than that crappy 4 cyl 2-wheel drive did. 6 years later the toyota showed less wear and tear than the Nissan did in one single year.
(Not that our 3rd Gen's are noted for fits and finish, longevity, resale)

Bah, any magazine that compares a 4th to a 3rd has not the test of time settle in. To me, rack and pinion steering offers nothing better over a thirdgen, not enough steering radius improvement to see a noticeable difference. the 4th gen interior is the same plastic **** we have, except they are bigger peices, thus a little less chance of rattles and loosening up. Since my both cars had worn out suspension I even have to go as far as saying the ride is near the same, or at least i can't tell very much the difference, I even think the thirdgen will ride better now since I have all new suspension lol.

to me it has never been about ride quality or cheap plastics and what not, Its about looking good, sounding good and going fast. That covers all camaros. They all will break no matter what generation.

To me, the Third Gens by far, are the looks winners, BUT on Drive Train (Not handling) the Fourth Gens got us beat.....Im talking stock trim of course....Had a chance to trade my 89, for a 98, and I said "Well er uh....NO WAY JOSE" it was a nice car, but it didnt have my Blood, Sweat, and Tears in it....Just my 2 cents, Tom

My take is that the third generation Camaro has a chance at being a collectable classic where as the fourth generation (as said earlier) blends in with all of todays cars. The third generation is the best looking Camaro for me. I didn't like the fourth generation when they came out because it looked like an over grown Geo to me. But that's just my opinion! The only thing I'd like from the fourth generation are the engines. I'd put one into my third generation if I could afford it!

The 4th Gen coolant sensor (located on the passenger side of the radiator) is a $25 part that is a snap to install. I had to change it on my 98 Z28. The ASR / Brake / ABS situation is one that I am facing in my 01 SS. I haven't taken it to the shop yet, but I've been told the vehicle speed sensor is a likely culprit. The 3rd v 4th gen debate is pure preference. Many people hate the look of the 3rd gen. I have friends who think it looks too square, but love the look of early 2nd gens. Lots of folks only like the looks of the 1st gen.
Me? I love my SS and I love my IROC. I can't forsee a time when I would willingly sell my 3rd gen, but I can be persuaded to sell my 4th gen.

well your check engine light felt lonely so it had to get friends...
bring it by bennies hell get it taken care of we are slow anyways
----------
and as far as the 4th gen debate no contest.
4th gens have crappy cheap interior, no styling ques, a too hard for average joe to work on and installing an engine is even worse done it 2x, not to mention value is not holding as you can find a nice iroc for the same price as a nice 4th gens
the 3rd gen awesome looks classic lines, you get in and look at those indvidualized gauges makes you feel like your in a 69 with a rocket for an engine.
value is going up not down, oh did i mention a stock iroc in 88 pulled .91 latteral g's on the skid pad, and the stock body was used to go set a world record by banks for land speed record. this car my friends was ahead of its time

Would u trade me if you were serious, I could be swayed.
As for that link, I could not afford soemthing that nice yet. If I wanted to go viper, it would have to be a gen 1, around 30k. If my luck doesnt pan with that however, The ram srt-10s are quite nice and I know those can be had for quite cheap and low mileage.
I just have to get something faster and sporty for a daily driver. Although everyone says it's ok to have a beater that is slow and lame. But it isn't written in stone. I think it's ok to drive luxury and sporty for commuting.
In January I am going to go into my credit union and see what I can get pre approved for as far as car loans, so I know truly what my budget is, loan + cash from 4th gen + some savings. I would have a very nice down payment.

yeah my car was 21k when i bought it and i added the saturns loan to that so that took me up to 26k after all was said and done. Ive only had it a year in febuary at 500 bucks a month that leaves me 20k owed and i dont want to pay that much for a 4th gen camaro. Maybe if it was paid off i would be interested. ohh and my car only has 30,000 on the clock so ther motor is still fresh for mods. and weight reduction.

My car occasionally does the ASR/ABS/Brake light thing. Alot of fourth gens do it. They have weird electrical glitches. In my case it just went away when I checked and tightened all the connections. I pulled the ABS codes in the computer and they were all lit up. Guess something came unplugged.
If you have a scanner just pull the codes and find the problem. If you can't figure it out just check all the connections.
The low coolant sensor can just be unplugged and the light will go off

my mustang raped all the lt 1's around here they are not to be ****ed with at all. with just a lil bit of money u can have ls1 killer i know like 5 people with them and the run mid 12' with a just a few bolt ons. my mustang beat ls1s but i had modes it did not cost me that much so the 1994-95 mustang gt 5 speeds is a good car to start with stock

One of my closest buds has had a 95-5.0 for many years.
Auto with exhaust & intake mods.
He can't hang with my beater Supra.
I'm just sayin. ..that would be quite a step down from the hp Robby's '98-LS1 is probably making.

only thing i hate about my 4th gen is the damn rear end and the stupid aluminum engine. freaking i stripped number 1 and number 6 spark plugs holes. need to take off the heads and the them helicoiled.

new(to me) 4th Gen..
I just aquired a '95 Z28 in primo condition withonly 58k miles on it...
Nice car.. but it sort of sucks that it only has a 2.73 rear end in it. I'm already planning to find myself a wrecked 4th Gen that has a V6 and a 5-speed manual in it; those ALL have 3.42 axles in them.
BUT..
I am also looking to dispose of my old '89 Formula 350.. It developed electrical problems and wont pass smog. the body is rough, but the engine and trans are strong (only 112K miles) It has a glass roof (all glass is good) and many other good, usable parts. I would rather see it used to rejuvinate another 3rd Gen than end up in the crusher. Clean Title,
$500 takes it.

I couldnt decide either, so i bought one of both! lol i have a 95 formula firebird, and i have a 84 z28.. the z is more of a project car though. as for the ride, the ride of the 4th gen is nice, it handles great, and i do like having the bells and whistles of a newer car for daily, but the 3rd gen is more primitive, and is more fun to play in!

I think my 3rd gen with all new suspension feels just as good as a fourth gen in equal condition.
