that pile of garbage they call the sbc
well got the 350 out of the iroc on a stand and i found out what was wrong and why it knocked n crap
the damn 50yo design they couldnt fix the flaws and had to make **** so cheap
the oil pump pickup was sitting at the bottom of the pan and had fallen out of the pump, so that explains that when i first noticed the oil pressure dropping slowly than i noticed the knock happened when it fell out and that = dead motor if theres no lube.
so all the rods and everything were f**ked

It happens, it doesn't matter if its Ford, Nissan, or Chev...
They are all mass produced, it doesn't matter if its made on Friday or Monday. There is a quota per day.
It just happens, and when you see something dropping out if its specified range, thats when you stop & find out whats wrong. Thats why the put gauges in car. Unfortunately stuff happens so fast, if its not caught soon, its too late!

Re: that pile of garbage they call the sbc
how many miles does the car have on it? There are a lot of problems associated with mileage and repairs/modifications with any engine. What I mean is: Take a Chevy 350 (or any motor of your choice), and put 180,000 on it. Let's just say this motor is not modified at all, pure bone stock Dad's pickup. Dad blows a head gasket and needs to have it replaced. While the heads are off of the enigine the mechanic talks him into going completely through the heads, and making them good as new (an easy sell by the way). This may sound like a good idea at first but consider that the entire engine is worn in together, bearings, rings, gaskets, and seals. Now imagine what a freashly sealed set of heads will do to an old worn bottom end? They will quickly blow out the sealing surfaces of the rest of the engine, and leave dad more pissed off than ever. It is a simple "path of least resistance" physics issue. I have been turning wrenches for many years and this happens EVERY time I have seen new heads put on an old engine; in fact, I stopped doing this for customers a long time ago. The cylinder head example is just that, an example, I am not saying that this is what happened with your car. I am new on this site and do not know your car or you at all. Just bringing up an issue I have dealt with many times. It very well could be a factory screw-up, just something else to consider is all.

Re: that pile of garbage they call the sbc
I can only speak from my own experience, and the fact that a majority of the engines I replace have had new heads put on them rescently. I am sure exceptions exist, I just have not eperienced it yet. Have you put all of those 180K on yourself? I am really kind of curious, you may have my first exception. As far as the oil pump mater goes though, 100K just does not seem like enough miles. Factory defective parts are definitly not uncommon. With the allowable variations in manufacturers specs, it truely is a wonder more parts don't fail prematurely. Sorry about you luck my friend. Just a couple of years ago I had an intake manifold gasket blow and let water into the oil. Car started runnig a little funny on my drive and by the time I got to my garage it had one hell of a knock. I know the feeling well.
----------
Oh, also how long (mileage wise) has it been since you had your heads rebuilt? This problem of course is not immediate, however a majority of the cases I have dealt with happen within 12,000 miles.

nope i bought the car from my cousin last yr with 175,000mi the motor was real strong it grenaded my 700r4 last yr around December lol so i got the heads & transmission done at 188k the exhaust valve seals were bad and i wanted to change the head gaskets so the motor would be solid till i start my ls2/t56 swap sometime next yr so i took the heads off and just let the shop did a valve job, resurface the heads and put new seals in only cost me 160$ and my car been running strong ever since

I hate to break it to you bud, but you are only beginning the path of your motor's doom. If it survives another 10,000 then you can say it didn't happen. Fortunately for you it sounds like you have your motor swap coming soon, so the engine should last you until then.

You are the last person that should try teaching grammer.... I have read through many of your posts and assure you that my 8 year old son has a better idea of how to form a sentance than you. I am not "talking crap" , you have been the one doing plenty of that. Take your BS elsewhere!

Like I said man, I can only speak from experience. I have been a professional wrench for 10 years, and have been involved in many F-body projects (as well as tons of other performance cars). It is just what my experiences have taught me, and it is not a matter of my own work either, most of these jobs come to me from other more "established" shops. Hopefully your experience is different than mine, I would hate to see another F-body off the road.

Re: that pile of garbage they call the sbc
i dont consider a shop a reputable shop if it wants to rebuild heads or do headgaskets on a 180K mi motor they are nuts, you get a lower mileage long block with a warranty or rebuild the whole motor.
thats just asking for trouble to do heads or head gaskets on something that old.
and the pump wasnt defective from the factory the design was

Re: that pile of garbage they call the sbc
granted a locking bolt would be nice, but your mishap is the first I have seen do what yours did. maybe someone else was in there and put a new screen in from the wrong year, or maybe tried to clean the crean and re-use it. I don't know, it is confusing and amusing to me. I would like to be there hands on with this engine, sounds like another good opportunity to learn. BTW have you got it running yet? I saw you were working on another engine going in.

Wow if I had the extra time I'd quote all your posts, Kidd Vette, and bold all the spelling and grammar mistakes you just made.
For right now just calm down and stop acting immature yourself. This is an Internet forum for enthusiasts of Third Gens, not a site for "E-Thuggin'" trying to show off your obvious lack of college level English education. If you want to E-Thug by being a grammar **** I'd suggest at least using the grammar/spelling checker on your own posts before you try to hijack.
