1st gen help if anyone can
I want to help my dad find a specific 67 camaro SS 396
My dad sold his old 67 SS camaro 396 back in the day when times where hard and it just wasn't a family car and I think a part of him has died ever since so I want to help him find his long lost dream car.
I've been having a hard time finding an all original Garnet Red w/ Black stripes, 4 spd manual with black leather. It was really one of a kind, but I hope and believe their is probably more then one out there, I've tried car auctions, any kind of internet classic car website and I'm just disappointed.
He really has an eye for detail I've tried skimming the surface with him trying to see if he would like a 68 camaro, or a 67 with a bunch of new tech in it he won't even give it a second look hes so old-school but I owe my entire fascination with Chevy's to my father and I think finding a car like the one he owned in his youth is the least I can do for him. I proudly say that I wouldn't have bought my 88 IROC-Z if it wasn't for the Chevy that runs in the family.
The car looked identical to this:

Any help would be nice, just want to do something for the old man =P
Thanks

Although I now own three 3rd gen Firebirds, My first love will always be my '69 Camaro. I know exactly how your Dad feels. Sold mine under similar circumstances. Before the '69 I had a '68, which I sold to buy the '69.
I still have the registration from my '69. If your Dad does, he should try to do a "CarFax" or an "AutoCheck" (I prefer the latter) search using the VIN. The coolest thing in the world would be to find his original car, assuming that it still exists and is in restorable condition.
ebay is a pretty good source, and there are numerous websites that deal in special antique cars. Hemmings Motor News is a good place to start, and they are on the web:

a quick search returned these results:

You're a good son. If mine ever did that for me, I'd cry like a baby.

I love first gens more then any other Camaros, but you better have a fat bank account if you want something nice and running, especially an "SS 396!". Man, those things are very expensive now.
Good luck they're out there, I'll keep my eyes open 4 u.

thanks for the info, ya I want to kind of surprise him so it would be cool to find the origional car but I would have to see if he had any of his registration or VIN of the car which would take forever in his house.

Good luck man

You'll pay 7 or 8k for a rusted out shell with nothing else with that kind of VIN on it. Honestly, good luck though, it's really cool what you're trying to do. You can probably find a clone though. Was it an SS option only, or was it an RS/SS? Most SS's you see these days have the RS package too, but being a 67 I'm sure there's plenty of open headlight SS's out there without backup markers on the bumper.
Don't be ashamed to consider just buying something in running condition that you can clone his car with, you might be looking for a miracle right now. You can probably find a regular RS that's a runner, and then throw his paint job on it. Then build a motor for that badboy. It'll be tons cheaper, fun, and a lot more possible... lol
I hope you can find one though, that would be about the best present in the world.
