According to the tech data on TGO it was avaliable on the 2bbl carbed motors as standard on the manual tranny's. See the link below.

Re: build sheet?

Check your ring gear. If you actually have 3.23s instead of the 2.73s listed in your sig, I would consider the buildsheet genuine. If not, three possibilities exist: either the axle has been swapped (check for date codes on the cast portion of the diff), the seat has been swapped from an alternate car, or it might be one of those fun factory screw-ups. Have fun!

Re: build sheet?

That's a good find. I wish I found one in my car when the rear seats were removed.

Re: build sheet?

I found two of mine, one in the place you mentioned and one under the carpet on the trans hump that was missing half like yours is.

I also see that in 82 they looked different than my 87 one... Great find regardless and you will find out more about your hot rod.

c i have a LG4 carb motor with the 4 speed and on the chart it says that should be a 2.73. the 3.23 says is only on the LU5. and the option says its a GU5 axle ratio

and my uncle was the second owner and he got it from the original old lady that bought it. and its bin in my family since then. so i know for a fact the entire car is original except for the pass fender and front bumper cover (the old lady sold the car after she rear-ended a van).

so i guess i have to jack it up and count the shaft spin.
cus i have no idea if its what the build sheet says or what history says lol

Re: build sheet?

Never have found my build sheet, probably never will. If the car even had one I'm guessing it went away with the old seat cloth a few years ago. Found nothing under the carpet when that was out for putting the roll bar in.

Re: build sheet?

My 82 LG-4/automatic Trans Am had the optional 3.23 gears originally. Mine didn't have G80 though was an open rearend.

See those numbers right below the word "Plant" just off to the side of Van Nuys?

Those are the last numbers of the VIN number (at least they are on my 82's build sheet)

511961 was my last VIN digits so whatever is in that box on yours match up to you VIN plate in the windshield and it should match.
